Liv Blog Look Good Feel Better Brushes Review Liv Lundelius Cruelty Free Makeup Artist Sydney copy

WE HAVE MOVED! PLEASE MOVE OVER TO OUR NEW BLOG: LIV LIFE MAG !

Earlier this week I had the chance to attend the breakfast launch of a new makeup brush ranges, which benefits the Look Good Feel Better.
Those of you that follow me on snapchat might have seen snippets of it already, as I featured the event live that day.
It was a lovely morning connecting with others in the industry and learning about the importance of makeup when undergoing cancer therapy.

The Brushes
The brushes are from amazing quality, especially for the price point. I am using mine already in my professional makeup kit and really love how extremely soft they feel.
they also look really nice and sleek. I definitely recommend them for everyone looking for affordable makeup brushes or for pro artists that want to add to their collection.
They are synthetic brushes, free from any protein component, which makes them hypoallergenic and cruelty-free. The handles are weighted and feature chrome ferrules,
which really makes them look professional.
The shapes and sizes are very usable too, it’s a full collection covering anything you would need at home, including a great sponge (similar to the Beauty Blender)
I am super happy with them so far, so if you are in Australia, go and check them out. You will find them within Priceline Pharmacies.

About The Charity
15% of the sale goes to the charity to help raise money to provide support for women with cancer.
Look Good Feel Better is a global cancer support charity, they host makeup workshops to help women feel more confident and better when undergoing their treatments and coping with hair loss and skin problems.
It was really interesting learning more about their work.
Besides the lovely volunteers, there was also a beautiful young woman, Alex. She shared her story about her personal journey with cancer. Listening to her made it obvious, how such a small thing like skincare and makeup can make such a big difference for everyone that is ill. Alex said she lost more than her hair. She felt as if she was losing her identity and feminity. Getting the chance to learn how to apply makeup, gave her back some confidence and joy. She was able to see herself again and created a new identity with confidence.
Look Good Feel Better was founded by the cosmetic industry in Australia and unfortunately uses conventional makeup brands, containing many questionable ingredients.
The work of the volunteer makeup artists is nonetheless remarkable, they make a big difference in the patients confidence. I would really love to see them focussing on toxin-free makeup brands. Giving out higher quality products to the patients in the makeup kits they provide would be a huge improvement. Avoiding synthetic fragrance and other unnecessary harsh chemical ingredients is certainly important to promoting health.
My own humble opinion:
Keep up the great and important work, but do your research and partner with brands that are healthy and safe to use. The brushes are a great start and an amazing product to help raise funds.

Skin Juice Review Natural Beauty Blog Organic Skincare Review

WE HAVE MOVED! PLEASE MOVE OVER TO OUR NEW BLOG: LIV LIFE MAG !

I am all about Juice and Smoothies amongst loads of other healthy unprocessed foods.
(Although I am still dreaming about an actual powerful blender to make my own at home!)
I just really love how good it feels to eat well and I also really dislike being sick. I feel I don’t have time to be sick or unwell and also can’t afford to lay around in bed, as I am running my own business. So healthy food is really important to me! I might annoy my friends from time with my health consciousness, but in the end of the day, they always come back to ask me for advice.
I started joking that I should consider starting another website/blog: Ask Dr Liv! (no, I am not a doctor nor professionally qualified to give anyone health advice!)

What is Skin Juice?
When I discovered Skin juice, the healthy natural skin care ranges with the inspiration to nourish your skin as a fresh juice nourishes your body, I was intrigued.
Founder Joanne Dampney used to be a successful beauty therapist with own salon, where she discovered a growing demand for safe, healthy, natural, organic yet effective skincare. Using her own clients as guinea pigs to develop the range, there was no animal testing required. She quickly gained a loyal following and today is focussing entirely on her skin care business.
It’s a vegetarian range with many vegan products, cruelty-free and packed with certified organic ingredients. All products are made in Australia.

The Best From Science & Nature
Skin Juice combines the best from science and nature to formulate innovative, nutrient rich skincare that will feed the skin like a healthy diet feeds the body.
The range is large and exciting! There is skin care, body care, products for men and a pregnancy range.
I only tried three products so far to get a glimpse and overview of the range, but I think I am already hungry for more!
The ingredients are clean and potent and the formulas feel very nice on the skin.

Professional Quality
The clever design of the products makes them perfect for travelling in my professional makeup kit as well. The packaging is hygienic and travel-friendly. It’s made from BPA free plastic!
Mostly pump dispensers are used and all lids fit on securely.
The range is also available in many beauty salons in Australia, so it’s possible to get a yummy facial with these toxin free products.
This shows again how potent the products are. Another natural range that actually works!

Mummy’s Tummy
I particularly love that there is a pregnancy range. I find that there is so much confusion about what is safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, even within natural skincare.
Many natural essential oils or botanical extracts are too stimulating or powerful when you are expecting. That’s why I give a huge thumbs up for any natural company that decides to make a range, especially for pregnant women and has a section on their website, which clearly lists everything that is safe to use during such an important and special time.

The daily regime:
Skin Juice is based on a simple regime. This can be supplemented with serums and treatments whenever the skin needs some extra love.
Morning:
1.In the morning, you start with a refreshing skin tonic instead of a cleanser.
2. Moisturize according to skin type.
Night:
1. Night cleansing, which removes makeup and impurities without drying the skin.
2. Use tonic to remove access cleanser and balancing the ph.
3.. Nourish & Repair the skin with a night oil or balm

Product Review
I have only tried three products, so I can’t review the whole regime:
Berry Fresh Healthy Skin Cleanser
A VERY lovely gentle cleanser. It removes makeup easily and it smells delicious. It’s suitable for all skin types as night time cleanser
This cleanser will not dry or strip the skin, instead, it will leave the skin feeling soft and looking healthier with the help from antioxidant and essential fatty acid rich blackcurrent, cherry kernel and raspberry seed oils. Berry Fresh contains a high antioxidant carotenoid content, in addition to a high tocopherol (Vitamin E) content, which quenches ageing free radicals before they damage the skin’s healthy lipids.Potent anti-inflammatory Bisabolol is extracted from Chamomile and will help soothe skin inflammation, redness and calm sensitivity.
Free from artificial colours or fragrances, this unique aromatic blend is 100% natural.
Quench Juice
This is a moisturizer developed for sensitive skin. It helps to calm down an over-stimulated skin. Perfect for combination skin as it is a midweight formulation.
It really soothed my skin now in the transition from Summer to Winter and is designed to protect the skin from environmental damage.
Quench Juice will sooth, hydrate and firm your skin with a potent shot of elixir from prickly pear, rich in vitamins and antioxidants the prickly pear will visibly reduce redness and bind moisture for soft dewy skin.
Provides immediate and long-lasting hydration, while helping to relieve the spread of inflammation and allergic reactions.
Nutritious and skin strengthening macadamia oil is rich in cell-protecting omega 7; this essential nutrient calms redness and keeps the skin strong and resilient against inflammation and irritation.
Natural and organic plant oils melt into the skin to keep it feeling and looking healthy, calm and smooth.
Green Juice Skin Balm
Now this is a real multi purpose product! It can be used as night treatment but it has so many more functions. I used it around my nose on some dry patches, on cuticles and as lip balm.
I have to quote from the Skin Juice website, as they already summed it up so beautifully:

This plantsterol-packed balm contains oils from sunflowers, shea and mango to help treat symptoms related to eczema and dermatitis.
Green Juice’s super fruits contain an abundance of essential fatty acids that will boost cell nutrition to help stimulate the skin’s healing process.
Green Juice will help heal skin after skin trauma such as; laser treatment, injury, tattoo, sunburn and so on.
Get that dewy moisture glow from the juices of coconut and organic plant butter, these skin smoothing lipids nourish and soften the skin.
Can be used as a nourishing, gentle cleansing balm for the face. Wonderful for removing heavy makeup, even safe for removing children’s face paint.
Nourishing balm for cuticles and lips. Nurturing for the delicate skin of babies. Massaging baby after 4 weeks will keep their skin soft and protected. Great to help soothe sore irritated bottoms too.
Blueberries, red raspberries and cranberries provide the skin with an antioxidant power punch. These hard working antioxidants help nourish the skin after time in the sun.
Coconut oils antibacterial benefits, plus purifying chlorophyll from alfalfa, help to keep skin clear, fresh and blemish free.

I can’t wait to try more of this wonderful super food range. Another great find in the natural cosmetics world, that delivers results, luxurious textures and promotes an high Earth loving ethical standard.

The Power Of Paw Paw And Why Your Skin Needs It

Paw Paw Moisturizer Organic Skincare Review Natural Beauty Expert Sydney

WE HAVE MOVED! PLEASE MOVE OVER TO OUR NEW BLOG: LIV LIFE MAG !

Have you tried Paw Paw before?
Paw Paw is another name for Papaya, the tropical fruit. It’s not only incredibly healthy when you eat it, it also has very powerful skin healing properties.

The Powers Of Paw Paw:

1. Power: Wound healing & Repairing
Papaya has been studied extensively for its wound healing benefits. The papain enzyme helps in healing but also keeps the bacteria away and prevents the scar from getting bigger.

2nd Power: Anti-Aging
Papain enzyme can reduce wrinkles by modulating the collagen and elastic fibers in the dermis.

3rd Power: Nourish
Papaya fruit provides hydration and nutrition to the skin.
Papaya not only repairs damaged skin but your body as a whole with the help of anti-oxidants like Flavanoids, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, etc.

Look For Organic
Chances are you have tried Paw Paw ointments before, probably as a lip balm to soothe your dry or cracked lips. I used to always have it as a staple in my makeup kit to prep lips prior to lipstick application.
The bummer is that most conventional Paw Paw balms are petrochemical based. Within the last years, however, there has been a greater number of organic and pure varieties.

I love that they are such a great all round product, super versatile and Paw Paw ointments really heal skin in record time.
Natralus is an Australian natural skincare brand that specializes in Paw Paw products, besides their amazing classic Paw Paw Ointment they have a whole range of natural goodies.
I have recently tried the new range of lip butter over here at Consume With Care.
And they are a real winner.

Paw Paw Moisturiser
Ointments aside, I really wanted to share my experience with the new
Natralus Paw Paw 95% Pure Moisturiser:
I was really surprised how this is so light weight. It really is like a lotion and it instantly absorbs into the skin, no stickiness or oiliness at all.
It smells divine too! I use it on my body and love that I can get dressed straight away. It’s gentle enough to be used on the face as well and suitable for sensitive skins.
I decked myself out in it and have some in my makeup kit, some in my handbag and some in the bathroom. They come in three different sizes.
Packed with organic ingredients I couldn’t find any reason not to slather myself in it, then I realized it contains:
Phenoxyethanol as preservative! Booooo! Many natural brands use this ingredient instead of parabens, but it has gotten some bad press, and it is fairly questionable.
I try to avoid this ingredient in my beauty products, but I also understand that it is often difficult for companies to find a suitable preservative for certain formulas.
Do your own research on the ingredient. Personally, I think if a brand uses overall a very clean and natural formulation it’s acceptable.
The Paw Paw Moisturiser is naturally free from petrochemicals, petroleum jelly, parabens, silicones, mineral oil, and artificial fragrance and colour.
Most Natralus products don’t contain this phenoxyethanol as a preservative. Go for their classic ointments and other beautiful products instead, if you prefer.
Always read the label!
It’s called 95% pure moisturizer because it’s actually 95% pure, active ingredients like Aloe Vera, Vitamin E and Organic Paw Paw. Did you know most moisturizers are based on water? Usually, the first ingredient on the list is water, often labeled as “aqua” . This one proudly shows Aloe Vera on top of the list. Basically, you are getting more bang for your buck here.
Pure hydration!

Uni Organics Review or Sleeping Beauty & the Good Day

uni organics review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert

WE HAVE MOVED! PLEASE MOVE OVER TO OUR NEW BLOG: LIV LIFE MAG !

I just had the chance to try out the beautiful anti ageing range by Uni Organics.
It’s the latest certified organic skin care brand here in Australia.
There is something very different about this range, that I noticed immediately: The textures and scents!
They seem very familiar as you would expect from any conventional high end luxury beauty brand.
Very pleasant and not too aromatic. Most natural organic brands have an essential oil smell to them,
or smell simply herbal (not that this is a bad thing!). The Uni Organics range however has sophisticated textures and a really pleasant soft creamy smell.
I think it’s the perfect introduction range, if you are changing from conventional to organic beauty products.
The packaging is travel friendly, hygienic and neat.

The ingredient list is cutting edge and on trend with the latest potent super foods for your skin.
For example: Kakadu Plum! I have seen it pop up everywhere recently, so I was really curious to learn more about it.
It’s a Australian native plant, which is extremely high in Vitamin C full packed with antioxidants.
Kakadu Plums also have anti-carcinogenic, anti fungal, antiviral and anti inflammatory properties.
This miracle worker is great for all skin types.

The Uni Organics Range focuses on anti aging with a straight forward compact range.
There is a cleanser “Perfectly Clean”, day cream “Good Day Face”, night cream “Sleeping Beauty”, a serum “Restore” and an oil “Repair” that I have tried.
I liked all of them!
(There are a also few additional products that I haven’t yet tried: A face mask, an eye cream and a face scrub.)
All of them are meant to be suitable for all skin types, with exception of the night cream which is not suitable for oily skin types.
In my experience the range is perfect for normal to dry skin, as most products are very hydrating and rather rich.
My skin loves it as it’s a little more on the dry side naturally, I am a combination skin type now that I live in Australia.
(besides random flare ups of oiliness and breakouts, when I am out of balance)

I like how the range is inspired by Aboriginal Australian Bush medicine and uses many local indigenous ingredients.
They have a lovely little explanation of the extracts they use and their effects on their website here.

Clean Skin , Clean Home Envirocare Review

enviroCare review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Exert

Over here at the Liv headquarters it seems things are finally getting sorted and back to “normal”, after our wedding and trying to catch up on everything it’s been a hectic (!!!) few months.
This last weekend Dave and I had some time together to sort out our home and did a full spring clean, and home cleanse.
We got rid of unwanted clothes and did multiple trips to donate them, we threw away boxes and boxes of useless stuff that had just accumulated and we also cleaned our apartment in depth.
It feels SO good! I can move around again in my office and breathe! There is nothing like a good tidy up.

You know that I am trying my best to avoid any unnecessary toxins in my life. At home we do our best to only use green cleaning products. I love buying from companies that care about the environment and source and make their products in a sustainable way. We lately got sent the EnviroCare Earth range over here and really liked them. EnviroCare Earth products have never ever been tested on animals. They are safe to use without polluting our home with nasty chemicals.
Dishwashing Liquid, laundry detergent, Hand Wash and also they Body & Hair Cleanser (which I used as travel size on our honeymoon, and loved it!)
They are fantastic unisex products for the whole family including the dog. Not even kidding, they have a lovely natural pet grooming range, approved by always white and fluffy Dalston.
Most products also come in generous sizes, reducing packaging and landfill. I really love how they thought about everything.

All their body products are extremely gentle and have the most pleasant barely there scent. I would highly recommend them for sensitive skin and sensitive noses that aren’t a fan of strongly perfumed products.

The cleaning products are really powerful and work a treat! I love how they don’t leave a strong scent either, they simply work and have no nonsense added to them.
I think it’s especially important if you have pets or babies in your home as they are much more sensitive to toxic ingredients and often are the first ones to develop allergies or skin problems.
Do you use green cleaning products in your home? Do you know that conventional cleaning products often contain allergens and toxic ingredients that can seriously effect your long term health?

Jane Iredale Skin Is In Review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert
bridal-hair-piece-3 2
Makeup By Liv Lundelius using Jane Iredale, for Bride La Boheme, Photography by Lana Ivanova

Jane Iredeale got it right! The new collection is all about the No Makeup Look, which I LOVE.
There is a new PureGloss colour called “White Tea” which is a sheer nude browny/beige colour, I love it, especially on medium to darker skin tones or summer bronzed skin.
“Flawless” colour blush, which has a very lovely neutral shade, just enough colour to give your cheeks that healthy flush without looking like you are wearing blush.
It’s also a matte colour, so it’s undetactable, no shimmer, no sheen. Quite a nice change after all the gloss and shimmer we have seen for years now.
(nothing wrong with it if you like shimmer and dewyness, I love it too and you can always add highlight!)
The Eyebrow Kit has had a revamp and is now called GreatShape and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it, it’s my favourite brow product which I use on myself every day and it’s the staple product in my pro makeup kit as well.
The Limited Edition Naturally Matte Eyeshadow Kit, is a real winner, with 5 (!) neutral and very wearable shades all completely matte. Jane Iredales matte shdows are never chalky though, they are richly pigmented and glide on very beautifully. It comes as a mirrored compact, which is very nice and flat, so perfect for carrying in your makeup bag.

It’s your no nonsense, quality basics kinda collection. Think Capsule Wardrobe for Makeup.
Good quality basics that you can actually wear day to day and that go with everything.
Well done Jane Iredale!

For the look above I have used:
Smooth Affair Primer, Dreamtint Tinted Moisturizer with Pure Pressed Powder, Great Shape Eyebrow Kit, Longest Lash Mascara, Naturally Matte Eyeshadow Kit, Brown Jelly Jar Eyeliner, Yummy Play On Lip Crayon, Moonglow highlighter (the lightest shade)

A DIY Bridal Manicure

Sienna Byron Bay Weleda Nail Care Liv Lundelius Review

Our wedding turned out to be a big DIY fest. Not that we set out to have it that way, it just seem to happen that we are surrounded by uber talented and creative friends that wanted to contribute to our wedding and so many things we did just seemed natural to do ourselves.
And yes, I did my own makeup on the day as well. I will share more about that soon!

As my hands were still busy working in the lead up to the wedding and I am a little bit particular about what I put on my body, I decide to do my own mani and pedi.
That way I could do it nice and fresh the night before the wedding and also pick my favourite nail products.

For the colour I chose Sienna Byron Bay, a toxin free, high quality polish brand.
I use them in my pro kit and they totally live up to my quality standards. Sienna Byron Bay produces their products as eco-friendly as possible. All their Australian made nail polish is produced using a professional, reduced toxin formula that is as clean as you can get. They also only use Cruelty-free, Vegan components.

I fell hard for the colour “Aura” which I used on finger and toe nails for the wedding. It’s a beautiful sheer pearly white.
(On honeymoon I used “Utopia” a stunning pastel mint green colour, that Dave was really over the moon about, good to have a designer husband!)

To prep my nails properly I used the brand new Weleda Nail Care Pen and Cuticle Softener Pen.
Both contain organic pomegranate seed oil, which is extremely high in antioxidants and promotes cell regenaration. The nail care pen is a staple in my bag now, also for days when I am not wearing any polish. It smells delicious, but not overpowering.
The Pomegranate Regenarating Hand Cream is another winner in the range. It absorbs very quickly and doesn’t leave the hands greasy at all. It’s a really great anti aging hand treatment as the antioxidant-rich, organic pomegranate seed oil helps to protect your hands from environmental influences that can cause the appearance of age spots.
The Cuticle Softener Pen, really made my manicure look professional and super neat.
How genius is Weleda ? I haven’t seen any natural or organic manicure products like these on the market.
They were a dream to use, toxin free and really worked a treat. They will be repurchased for my makeup kit as well.

Natural Beauty Hangout & Talk

Feature-Liv-1024x768

I lately had the chance to speak to the lovely Juliet from Lace N Ruffles, who interviewed me for her hangout series.
Sharing the same values and love for natural products this interview was so much fun.
It’s so great to connect with others in the blogsphere and the article is filled with kindness.
It really made my day when I read it and all the lovely words she had to say about me and my work.
As you might have noticed, I have been flat out with work, traveling and non stop working and while I have accumulated
many great ideas and products that I want to share, there has been a little radio silence on this blog.
You can always follow my adventures on Instagram if you like.

In case you missed it, see the whole post here at Lace N Ruffles and read on for a little preview.

My current skin care routine:
I am always testing and trying new discoveries to keep up to date.

With my own wedding around the corner I really need to stop and get into a set routine.

However here is what I currently actually use:

♣ Morning:

Face skincare: I wash my face in the shower with La Mav Sweet Orange Foaming Cleanser, then tone with La Mav Purifying Toner (editor’s note: it’s won a place in our Top 30 Natural Skin Care Products under $30 list!). I use Tata Harper Eye Cream morning and night. Lately I have been using the Organic Spa range, which was recommended to me by a facialist. I love the results and that the products are toxin free, the smell I find personally not too great, but my skin really likes it. I use the day moisture as moisturizer and wrinkle defence serum.

♣ Night:

I remove my makeup with pure organic pumpkin seed oil and a microfibre cloth. If I feel like a deep cleanse I use the La Mav Sweet Orange Foaming Cleanser afterwards. I follow with Organic Spa Day Moisture and include an exfoliating treatment into my routine from time to time. The Organicsceuticals Night Renewal Treatment works wonders.
I have yet to establish my favourite routine for the upcoming months.

♣ Body skincare:

Dry skin brushing, Shower and Hydrotherapy with cold water is how I start my day. I use coconut oil on the wet skin, which helps it to absorb and lock in the moisture, it doesn’t feel greasy this way. I use pure almond oil on my fingernails and cuticles and coconut oil on my hair.

I hope you enjoy this little insight in my current routine and the full interview.

Green Beauty Brand Profile: Jane Iredale

Posted on: Wednesday, September 23, 2015

If you follow my Instagram you may noticed that I frequently use Jane Iredale products on set in my professional makeup kit.
I have written about some products in the range and reviewed some here and there, but I thought I give you a bit more background info about this brand.
I am quite picky when it comes to the selection of my makeup kit. The products really need to perform, last and also be suitable for a variety of skin types while keeping the allergy risk to a minimum.
Therefore I select pure products that soothe and calm the skin and are less likely to cause irritation.

Ethical
Jane Iredale products do exactly that! They are also certified cruelty free, which is VERY important to me personally.
Free of parabens, synthetic fragrance and other nasties they are a good choice for my green makeup kit. These products are mineral based and contain organic and natural extracts.
Coverage, application and texture are incredible. The Vitamins and antioxidants in the formulas are pharmaceutical grade and certified organic where available.

Performance
The best thing about Jane Iredale makeup from a pro perspective is the longevity: Even in very humid conditions and on long days this makeup lasts and lasts and lasts…. All the pressed products are also unable to hold bacteria as they are inert. This makes sure everything stays nice and clean and no germs get into the makeup onto your skin. A real plus for a professional makeup kit and your skin.
Jane Iredale is still family owned business by the founder Jane Iredale herself. She only produces high quality products and has a high ethical standard.

The difference
I have tried mineral makeup before and to say that I did not like it would be an understatement.
I found most mineral makeup to have a bad and limited colour selection, messy application, a flat, chalky and uneven finish, looking aging on the skin, emphasizing pores and dryness…
to sum it up: A total mess that I would never use personally or professionally.
The other confusing thing about mineral makeup is that not all minerals are safe or clean at all. Minerals can be polluted with harmful heavy metals or contain drying or harmful minerals
such as Talc or Bismuth Oxychloride.
That’s why I stayed clear of mineral makeup for years. Until I discovered Jane Iredale. Finally a brand offered intensive testing of the minerals used, ensuring safety & purity and at last performance!!! This makeup looks and feels good on the skin.

Natural?
Jane Iredale chooses to use silicones in their products for performance and improved texture. The chosen ones are never contamined with potentially harmful substances and considered safe. As mentioned before this brand has very strict testing of all their products and ingredients used.
Jane Iredeale chooses to do these tests, they are not required by law to do this. That is the real difference in quality that you get with this makeup.
While most other brands in my kit are 100% organic or 100% natural, Jane Iredale is not. There are certain synthetic ingredients used, however only if they are truly considered safe and non toxic. So I am happy to confirm that all products in my kit are cruelty-free and toxin free! Most natural beauty lovers use and love Jane Iredale, while others find it not natural enough.
I think everyone has to do their own research. I have had the chance to attend some training with this brand and researched a lot to clear up any misconceptions. In my opinion it’s a fabulous brand, that is also very upfront about it’s certifications and ingredients. They certainly meet my personal and ethical standards.
It does not green wash or use any misleading terms, yet is a brand that seems to truly care about it’s products, the environment and it’s clients.

Every Brides Dream
And boy, does this makeup work for brides! So many of my clients have emailed me with raving reviews saying they didn’t need to touch up their makeup and when they were dancing wild at the reception everything was still in place. Of course there is more to long wearing makeup than products alone (e.g. pro application, skin prep etc). I think that Jane Iredale products play a BIG role in the longevity of wedding makeup.

My new ambassador role
As professional and independent artist I will always use a variety of brands in my kit and take advantage of the freedom to pick and choose the best products available.
I have chosen to be ambassador for Jane Iredale, this fabulous brand! In my pro kit I am using a huge percentage of these wonderful products!
I can proudly say that I love to support this brand. I really hope you love it too!

I will follow up with a few looks where and how I have used these fab products on my latest work and editorials.

Oil Cleansing The Right Way – Make-Up Be Gone!

Posted on: Wednesday, September 9, 2015

trilogy cleansing balm review liv lundelius natural beauty expert sydney green makeup artist

Oil Cleansing is the most gentle and effective way to remove makeup and to clean your facial skin, without stripping it.
This way of cleansing melts down even waterproof eye makeup and dissolves all traces of makeup. Even if you don’t wear makeup at all, it’s amazing to cleanse your skin this way.
Many of you might be familiar with oil cleansing already, but I am always surprised how many people haven’t tried it yet.

Finding the right oil cleanser
It is important to find a high quality organic product or pure oil.
The oil or combination of oils should match your skin type. If you are congested and prone to breakouts it’s best to choose and oil that is non comedogenic.
(often hemp seed oil, pumpkin seed oil or jojoba oil work well for these skin types)
If you are in doubt google the comedogenic ranking of an oil, prior to buying it.
I have also previously written about how to find the right oil for your skin type.
There are many beautiful products out there for oil cleansing, like natural cleansing oils and balms.
Remember as usual check the label and look for certified organic, cruelty-free products.

A new very beautiful cleansing balm, perfect for normal to dry skins is the Trilogy Make-p Be Gone Cleansing Balm. With a blend of Mango seed butter, coconut oil, rosehip- and sunflower seed oil. It smells wonderfully of ylang-ylang, freesia and cedarwood. It also comes with a little organic cotton face cloth. A real treat before bed time.
But if you are on a budget or prefer single ingredient cleansing just buy yourself a high quality oil. I personally often cleanse with pumpkin seed oil and a microfibre cloth.
I store my pumpkin seed oil in the fridge and just decant a weeks worth into a small glass bottle with pump which I store in my bathroom.

Using the righ cloth
Microfibre cloths work wonders as they don’t hold bacteria and dry pretty quickly after use.
It’s best to wash them with a gentle hand or body wash after use, rinse, wring and hang to let dry completely.
After 3 or more uses I often give mine a gentle machine wash.
There are pretty sweet ones like the Jane Iredale Magic Mitt. It’s a pink mitt, super easy to use and from amazing quality.
This one has been designed to be used just with water. It actually works! If your skin is sensitive to everything, you can try using it on it’s own.
I prefer using microfibre cloths together with oil. If you just want a simple no frills option, you can find microfibre face cloths in most pharmacies or supermarkets.
If you prefer more exfoliation and a completely natural option you can also use an organic cotton cloth.
As it will take longer to dry and the natural fibres can hold on to bacteria, you will need to wash it more often.

Step by Step Guide

1.Always apply your product (balm or oil) onto the DRY skin first.
2.Massage the oil or balm in circular motions with your fingertips. This will help circulation but also dissolve any makeup or grime from the day.
If you are wearing eye makeup also gently massage the eye area and lashes.
3.Wring out your cloth in warm water and gently wipe away the oil and makeup. You might have to repeat this step a few times, until you feel clean.
4.Use a toner and moisturize your skin. Have a good nights beauty sleep. :)

Oil cleansing is definitely recommended for night time but some people prefer doing it morning and night.
Experiment with what works best for your skin.

You might have heard about Gressa already, I have mentioned it on Instagram before and also recently
included it in my list of favourite brands over here at Consume With Care.

Gressa is something else. Now I have heard of serum foundations and makeup that is good for the skin many times, yet Gressa actually lives up to this promise.
The formulas are squeaky clean and free of synthetic chemicals, yet so glamourous and luxurious.
It’s a brand that thinks outside the box. Certified organic using purest quality ingredients the formulas and textures are different to other brands, Gressa truly reinvents makeup.
Or should I say skincare? Most products are both. A real treatment for the skin delivering colour. And the actual skincare is so potent that again, you don’t even need much makeup anymore.
Founder and natural beauty Svetlana herself is the best proof that this line delivers healthy glowing skin.
She has a admirable minimalist approach to skincare, really showing that less is more, to keep your skin healthy.

I discovered the brand a little while ago and have been experimenting with it. It’s so gorgeous I really wanted to take time before reviewing it, although I was impressed right from the start.
Finally I have received the correct shade of Minimalist foundation for myself and have been wearing it everyday. And what can I say?
This foundation works different to all others I have used, everyday it seems I need to use less and less of it, as my skin heals and becomes more and more even and healthy. It’s a little bit amazing. I have been using the products on photo shoots and they work a treat in front of the camera, yet I feel they are perfect for everyday wear and your personal beauty regime at home.
Let me tell you in more detail about the products, before I get too carried away:

Minimalist Corrective Serum Foundation:
The Minimalist foundation comes in a dark glass bottle with dropper! Say what? Yes that’s right.
The texture is truly that of an liquid skin serum. It says on the box that it is like a multivitamin for your skin. Checking out the ingredient list, this is absolutely true:
It’s a cocktail of organic botanical oils and extracts all chosen for their skin care benefits, no fillers here!
Minimalist foundation also contains a unique blend of herbal extracts helping the skin to heal.

Application:
Only 4 drops are enough to give a light even coverage all over the face.
This no fuss treatment can be applied with fingers, or buffed with a foundation brush. It’s important to shake the bottle beforehand!
When I started using it my skin had a few blemishes and scarring, so I used a little more products, applying with hands and then
blending it with a fluffy foundation brush to make it even.

Finish:
The finish is glowing but not oily/dewy, the liquid serum sets to a powder, yet the finish is not powdery or matte.
It’s just perfect. It looks like healthy skin! Reflecting the light and looking radiant without being shimmery yet giving the skin a velvety appearance.
Does this even make sense? The coverage is medium, it can be applied very lightly for a more sheer result and layers well for more coverage also.

Feel:
The foundation glides on very smoothly and has an extremely lightweight feel on the skin. It almost feels like the skin is bare after application.

Skintype:
This foundation great is for all skin types. If your skin is extremely dry or flaky, it might show off dry areas. (but hey, no foundation can really deal with very dry skin)
At the same time is remains radiant and my t-zone will show oil after a few hours. My skin is combination: Can be dry around cheeks and nose, oily in the t-zone.
It’s so lightweight that I think even oily skin would love it, and it is so smooth that I can also see it work on mature skin very well.

Colourmatch:
Gressa offers an online colour match based on a photo. The foundation currently comes in 11 shades, so most skin tones will find a perfect match.

Minimalist Contouring Serum Bronzer:
The bronzer comes in the same packaging and texture as the Minimalist Foundation. It’s only one shade, which a very rich, dark and olive colour.
This makes it perfect for contouring, as the colour is not orange or shimmery at all. Like the other liquid products in the Gressa range, this is very concentrated.
Start with a drop and will it go a long way.

Ilumminator:
The Minimalist Illuminating Serum can be mixed with your foundation or used as highlighter over the top.
It is very concentrated, so you only need a small amount of 1-2 drops. The colour is pinkish pearlized, making it perfect for fair to medium complexions.

Lip Boost:
Contained in a pretty little glass jar the Lip Boost is a highly pigmented tinted balm, leaving the lips with a beautiful stain.
I have tried Aux Rouge and Lavish and I might have to get the other shades too. Aux rouge seems like the perfect red for everyone.
You can wear these sheer or build the pigment up to a more opaque finish.

Purifying Mist:
The Purifying Mist is a toner that balances & soothes both your skin and mind. A pure rose mist, which was on stand by on my desk for as long as it lasted.
Love the refreshing smell of pure rose. And this is all it is: Pure certified organic rose water.
Gressa also has the best selling Neroli toner, I will have to try this one as well….

Purifying Oil:
Purifying Oil is a very lightweight oil suitable for all skin types. An excellent blend of organic natural oils featuring:
Immortelle, Rose Hip and Jojoba Oils among others.

There are many more products by Gressa which I haven’t tried yet check out the website to see the full product range.

The green beauty journey – Become A Green Queen

green beauty journey

Do you want to live a greener life? Not sure how and where to start?
Do you feel overwhelmed and confused about certifications and green washing?
Maybe it’s just me, but that’s how I felt many times.
You can do it, and baby steps are the answer! Be kind and patient with yourself, while doing your own research and learning more.
I have listed some tips I found useful when I made the transition to green beauty, this will make it a breeze to change, trust me!

I feel living a green lifestyle is a journey. There are always ways to improve, learn more and change for the better. It’s important not to judge people for their choices and to just try and your best with the knowledge you have. I think it can be daunting at first and many feel it’s either all or nothing when it comes to sustainable lifestyles, personally I feel the opposite is true. Every little step makes a difference and if you can’t commit to changing everything up all at once and quitting everything cold turkey that’s absolutely fine. I have been vegetarian all my life and have been experimenting with a vegan diet on and off. I am now what is called Parisian Vegan. Sounds fancy, huh? It basically means that avoid animal products at home, yet when I am going out to a restaurant or with friends I do go for vegetarian options, which may contain dairy. It makes my life less stressful this way here in Sydney. When I was living in NYC I found it a lot easier to eat out and find delicious vegan options. In Sydney it can even be a challenge just being vegetarian, depending on where you go. So yes, I am not perfect. But finally my professional makeup kit and personal beauty routine is: clean, luxurious, cruelty-free and organic!

Today I wanted to share with you how to detox your beauty bag and find new holy grail products that are better for you and the environment.

Step By Step
Don’t feel like you have to throw away everything you own, just because you finally learned how to decode the ingredient list, of your favourite beauty products.
Replace products as you use them up. Replace products that you use daily and on wide areas of your face/body (bodylotion/moisturizer/foundation) first, while small products that you only use on special
occasion (bright lip colour, eyeliner etc.) can wait a little longer. This way you won’t break the bank either.

Samples are your best friend
In all my years as professional makeup artist I have learned one thing for sure:
Everyone’s skin is different. What works wonders for one, does not suit another.
You will always have to try products for yourself. Especially when it comes to changing your skincare and foundation, it’s a good idea to get samples before you buy.
Most companies are happy to provide samples either free or for a small fee.
You can save yourself a lot of $$$ and hassle by sampling.

Research Research Research
It can still be helpful to read reviews online (but keep in mind everyone is different, so even raving reviews don’t mean that you will love the product!)
You can get a general idea of the strengths and weaknesses of a product and also read through the ingredients.
Try to only research one product group at a time, to not get overwhelmed.
It can also help to shop at stores that have already done a lot of the leg work for you. If you buy your cosmetics in a health food store instead of a supermarket,
chances are you find toxin free beauty more easily. There also many great online stores that have selected products that are safe and truly natural.
I have listed a few Australian based ones in my sidebar, if you are interested. Many cities have exclusive green beauty stores as well.

Don’t give up
Just because you have tried a natural product and it has not worked for you, or you even got an allergic reaction or had any other bad experience:
DO NOT GIVE UP ON IT ALL TOGETHER. I am under no illusion that there are many natural beauty products out there, that are simply not great.
This is the same for conventional products. It sometimes takes time to find the perfect product that you love to the moon and back.
I had to try several natural deodorants and had many bad experience before I found “the one”. The same goes for foundation.
There are many incredible products out there and it’s worth looking for them!

Beware of Greenwashing
Last but not least:
There is also a lot of “greenwashing” going on. This means that many companies try to market their products to be natural or organic and use misleading terms to make you think, their products are natural when really they are not at all. There is a great list of companies using this practice over here at the Green Beauty Team Blog.

Share & Treat Your Feet
Besides all your effort you ended up with a new beautiful product that just isn’t right for you?
If you did buy a product that you did not like, do not throw it away!
Unless you have an allergic reaction you can still use most products for a different purpose.
I regularly use up face products on my body. If a face cream or oil is too rich for me, I use it on my hands/feet or hair.
A real treat! A shampoo or body wash that you don’t like might work well as hand wash or to clean your makeup brushes?
Have a think: Is there anyone else that would like it? My man keeps using up products that don’t work for me, as his skin is not as sensitive as mine. You might have a friend or relative that loves the product.

Spring Skin – Fresh and radiant

la mav sweet orange cleanser review liv lundelius sydney natural beauty expert green makeup artist sydney

I can’t tell you how excited I am for Spring! I have seen the first beautiful blossoms blooming, here in my street and they make me smile every time I walk past.
I already told you how I got my body glowing in time for Spring, now it’s time for the face!

The warmer temperatures will also have an affect on your skin. All dry skin sufferers will welcome the warm weather, while for those of you with oily skin the battle with shine and congestion will start once again. Everyone will benefit from exfoliation at this time of year.

My own skin already started showing a shiny t-zone throughout the days this week, along with a little congestion: Two signs reminding me to adjust my makeup and skincare routine!
I am switching over to a new cleanser, incorporate a cleansing mask twice a week and switch to a clarifying toner. Perfect timing to review the La Mav Purify and Clean range. My skin is combination and it does change with the seasons. I have also lately been prone to breakouts and congestion, so I feel the need to change my routine. (of course there are many reasons for this and nutrition, stress levels, sleep etc. play a big role in break outs!)

Spring Cleanse
If you have read my general advice, I am always preaching about very gentle cleansers and I love oil cleansing myself,
more about that soon!
Yet sometimes I feel the need for a no fuss cleanse! The La Mav Sweet Orange Foaming Cleanser is just that and much more :) It has wonderful anti aging properties, which makes it perfect for adult acne,
or congested skin in your 30s and beyond. I really love how this cleanser doesn’t dry, yet really balances my skin. The smell is very mild and pleasant.
Bilberry extract along with Sugar Cane extract helps purify, cleanse and exfoliate the outer layer of the skin encouraging cell turnover and strengthening the surface of the skin as well as refines and unclogs pores.
My skin feels refreshed and supple afterwards. The cleanser has a liquid gel texture (which reminds me of Cetaphil for those of you who know it, yet Cetaphil is of course NOT natural and includes too many questionable ingredients for my liking!) La Mav of course is all organic and packed with beneficial toxin free ingredients! This cleanser also removes makeup with ease. It’s basically perfect!

Spring Tone
The Purifying Toner is another one that a fantastic anti aging product while balancing oil and preventing congestion!
La Mav knows their stuff and really developed a great range for oily skin, beyond teenage years.
This toner refines the pores and assists in maintaining the skin’s natural pH balance. Basically: Making oily/combination super happy without drying.
Formulated with Melissa water and Bilberry extract to tighten and firm, this toner delivers clean, smooth skin. Yay!

Spring Detox
The Green Clay Detox Mask is recommended to be used every other day (I have been using it twice a week, to to a busy schedule!)
Yet I found the results great! The mask comes out very smooth and is easy to use unlike many other messy clay masks that I have tried.
Due to the green clay it has a light green colour, which looks very healthy to me. The combination of white and green clay helps to absorb impurities and control excess oil.
Fruit acids and extracts exfoliate to reveal plump skin and reduce the appearance of pore size, while Marula Oil hydrates and protects the skin.
It’s an award winning mask that does what it says.

La Mav Tamanu Oil Review Adult Acne Tips Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert
Spring recover
Did you read my introduction post on oils? There is a little miracle worker, I haven’t mentioned yet: Tamanu Oil!
It has very healing properties and is known as amazing treatment for acne scars and sunburns.
I have been using it on scars and am amazed about how powerful it is.
I even started using it on a scar on my foot, which stems from an accident 2 years ago and it has faded the darkness and softened
the skin immensely. Apart from it anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, Tamanu oil promotes new tissue formation, accelerates wound healing and stimulates cell division (more new cells = healthier skin). You can use it as main ingredient in DIY face masks or as nightly restorative skin treatment I highly recommend having a bottle of this miracle elixir, especially if you wish to brighten and heal acne scars.

Winter Skin Good Bye with Eco Tan

Eco Tan Winter Skin Instagram Review
Eco Tan Review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert
This Winter has been feeling extremely long. I am still sipping hot tea next to the heater while typing this, so I guess it’s safe to say that I have gotten used to the mild temperatures here in Australia. I am even getting a little bit pale.Naturally I am a medium skin tone, tanning very easily and I do get pretty dark during the Summer months. My skin is yellow toned and I feel it looks best sun kissed. I believe all skin tones are beautiful from the fairest milkiest white to the darkest chocolate brown, and of course we all suit our natural skin tone. As makeup artist I observe skin tones constantly as it’s important to find the right colour match when applying makeup. My yellow skin can get a little sallow in Winter so I do prefer a little bit of a tan glow.

I am quite low maintenance (for someone working in the industry) with my personal beauty routine and really like products that work and a beauty routine that I can do at home.
While spray tans are super popular here in Sydney (and thank goodness there are now certified organic self tan options available!) I prefer a quick DIY job in my own bathroom.

Self Tanning at home
So I was very intrigued when I heard about Winter Skin by Eco Tan. Winter Skin is a lotion in a pump bottle, which is a body moisturizer with a hint of buildable self tan. It’s THE solution to just warm up your skin, super easy to use. It has no stinky fake tan smell and keeps the skin hydrated. I simply exfoliate with the Extreme Exfoliating Glove in the shower and use the Winter skin as I would my usual body moisturizer and then wash my hands thoroughly. Done! If your knees, elbows and feet are dry make sure you exfoliate and hydrate them before using any self tan. This one is pretty foll proof though, as the colour is just a believable little hint of tan. No need for a tent or cleaning the bathroom afterwards, just a quick and easy thing to do. It can be used a few days in a row until you achieve the desired colour. Love it! It really helps as well to even out the skin and I feel ready to expose my legs now that Spring is around the corner.I might need a bottle for Summer to even out any tan lines before the wedding…(I will let you know if I do and if it works!) I think this is great for beginners, anyone with very fair skin, or
people like me that find it too stressful to go for beauty appointments. If you however want a deep professional spray tan, Eco tan actually has professionals that can do this for you.

Why Organic?
If you know me or have read this blog before you know how passionate I am about anything organic.
To me it’s the best lifestyle to ensure we can sustain this beautiful planet in the future.
Organic food and cosmetics protect the environment, the animals and also our own health as humans.
Of course I could go on and on why it is so important, but chances are you know this already.
Otherwise I might write up a separate blog post.

Of course I all for the quality certified organic ingredients throughout the whole Eco Tan range. It has been tested in Australia to be toxin free and it’s also vegan. I recommend this range to all my brides, if they are thinking about getting a fake tan for their wedding day. Of course always book yourself a trial appointment for a tan before the wedding day,so you can confirm the right colour and also make sure you don’t have any allergic reactions. Now we can all get a truly healthy glow!
In time for Spring…
