Best BB for Summer and natural goodies

BB Cremes are the latest thing in beauty, and while I am not really fussed about the names beauty companies come up with each season for foundations,
I am still always interested in the new product itself, no matter if it’s a tinted moisturizer, foundation, bb creme, or another fancy marketing word.
To me as a professional makeup artist and sensitive skin every day makeup wearer it’s all about the quality of a product that determines if it will
secure a spot in my private makeup bag or professional makeup kit.

Today I wanted to introduce another addition to my own skincare/makeup bag.
The BB Creme from La Mav, is my go to staple on days off, when walking the puppy and on holiday or to protect my own face on destination photo shoots and weddings.
It’s also good for early starts, as it’s super easy to apply, just a couple of pumps straight applied to my skin with fingers after my moisturizer takes way less than a minute.
The BB Creme is mattifying, has natural sunscreen, anti-ageing skincare benefits, provides long lasting moisturisation, evens my complexion and the colour adapts really well to my skin.
Flawless in 30 seconds, that deserves a special mention. Like all La Mav products it’s also certified organic, vegan, cruelty free, and certified toxin free, which makes it perfect
for personal every day use. This is a light coverage BB Creme, that evens out little imperfections.

It’s my go to for the no makeup makeup days, and when my skin is good.
For the easy healthy holiday makeup, it comes as a makeup set in a package with a pretty lip gloss which is a real lip treatment in “Berry” , a mineral bronzer in “Sunkissed” (a tad too dark for myself) and a kabuki makeup brush, perfect to buff mineral powders into the skin. If you are a mineral makeup wearer, this is worth checking out.

If you are having problematic skin and are looking for a full cover BB Creme, check out my previous post about the Jane Iredale Glow Time BB Creme.

My Bali Boho Summer Makeup

I packed my own makeup bag for my upcoming Bali trip.
The natural mineral products by Ere Perez are especially good for humid weather and the natural mascara is waterproof so I can dip into the pool as well.
Here is my go to, beachy boho makeup look for hot summer days with Ere Perez makeup:

02erep
03erep
01erep

Start by using a BB Cream or tinted moisturizer with sun protection as a base on freshly moisturised skin, see one of my favourites here.

Next I use Sun Halo it’s a versatile highlighting cream bronzer, (or should I say bronzing cream highlighter?) with the most delicious vanilla smell.
Apply on the high points of the face with fingers or stippling brush to get an instant glow and sunkissed touch.
Use it on the bridge of the nose, cupids bow on the cheek bone and brow bone. It looks great on the eye lid too.
On the cheeks I use Bondi Blush the perfect blush for sunkissed skin. (although it suits pretty much everyone)
Just a hint on the apple of the cheek applied with a blush brush or small powder brush.
A hydrating lipstick Moisturising Macadamia Lip Colour “Me” is the perfect natural lip colour in a caramel brown, which makes my teeth look very white. WIN!
If you have a fair complexion try the colour “YOU”. It also protects my lips from the harsh UV rays.
I use a hint of Sun Halo on the lid and apply volumising waterproof mascara in Black

Done! There you have it a super quick and easy summer holiday look. I hope you enjoyed it.

That golden glow & a smooth affair

I have lately been thoroughly reviewing Jane Iredale‘s Glow Time Full Coverage BB Creme.

Due to moving house and other stressors my skin has not been at it’s best lately and I was in the market for more coverage in an every day foundation.
I found a good colour match for myself in the line, however there are limited colours available.
I wear BB7, a very yellow toned medium skin colour.

When I used it for the first time people commenting on how great my skin looks and if I was wearing anything and also asking what it was.
I was really surprised that people noticed. So I guess this has a really great finish.
Another big plus is that this product stays on all day, no matter how humid or long the day, it’s perfect for Summer and the beach due to it’s
sunprotection and water resistance.

The packaging is just amazing, a practical squuuueze tube in gold, with is great for travel and every day use while still locking beautiful.
When it comes to application be prepared to only use the smallest possible amount and follow the instruction: Place little dots in different areas of the face
before you warm and work the product with fingers into the skin from the center outwards. It takes some getting used to and if you use too much product it won’t work.
This product is VERY high coverage so you really only need a tiny amount, really great as one tube will last you a long long time.

I tried many different ways of using it and I found it was important to moisturize my skin well before and it works best with the Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Primer
(which smells delicious by the way), it makes my skin feel very smooth and supple yet it’s light and quickly absorbed, it also enhances the radiance.

Being a lover of a very dewy finish, I was a little scared how matte the BB Creme went on, how ever it sets very quickly on my skin and transforms into a radiant finish.
On days that I feel dehydrated I was setting it with Pommisst
Which seals it in and gives instantly more glow.

Glow Time covers my breakouts and scarring without the need of additional concealer and I have also worn it here and here, so you can see how it photographs in daylight.

I recommend this for:

Sensitive skin
Oily/Normal/Combination skin types
Summer
Beach
Everyday wear
Acne

My holygrail hair tools

Working in the fashion and beauty industry I am always on the lookout for the best and latest as additions to my professional makeup- and hair kit.
My hair tools need to be fast, reliable and easy to pack, reduce damage on my clients and models hair and super easy to use.
I am excited to let you know I found the one!

I usually really like to mix and match when it comes to cosmetics and hair styling products, and I carry a variety of different brand hair tools. The latest luxury addition to my kit are H2Dhair styling tools.
I think I will not look back anytime soon. Designed with the professional in mind these beauties come with dual voltage use, for us busy international artists, professional length swivel cords, and sleek professional design.
It was love at first sight! Opening the boxes of my new babies was already a great experience.
You know, some brands just get it right, the whole packaging experience.
During the first use I was super impressed how fast these tools would heat up, they are ready to use almost instantly
(20sec), and also the professional very high temperatures, which will ensure the hair takes to the styling properly and that the look will last and last and last and… you get the idea!
Let me tell you a bit more about the actual products I have:

Linear II Professional One Pass Iron in glossy black.

This is a straightening iron/styler which can be used to curl the hair as well.
It’s amazing! Heats up to 230C within 20 seconds. The flexible high quality floating plates are coated with ceramic and infused with tourmaline, which makes the hair smoother, silkier and static free.
It uses Far Infrared Technology and Ionic Technology which is the latest and most advanced thing in hair styling.
Although I always love the look of matte black tools, I have to admit that they are hard to keep clean. They get a lot of product build up over time, while the glossy tools are so much easier to wipe down.

IR professional hair dryer in black
Another hit in the range! It’s everything I could want from a hair dryer, fast, gentle with state-of-the-art technology;
The Ionic Generator which seal cuticles, infuse moisture, eliminate frizz and provides a silky feel.
The Infrared heaters allow to cut the drying time dramatically.
It has 4 Speed and heat settings and a cold shot button. If you are in the market for a new hair dryer get one of the few in world that use both, true ionic and infrared technology, you can thank me later, your hair will thank you straight away.
You’re welcome!

H2D X5 Professional Curling Wand
And now the most amazing tool of all: This is the ultimate essential tool for all session stylists. You get one curling wand with five interchangeable barrels, for all shapes and sizes of curls that you could ever want.
Do you remember the revolutionary technology of the other H2D tools, I was talking about?
Yes you guessed right. This is the first true ceramic and tourmaline infused curling wand, using Far infrared technology and ion field technology seals in natural oils for great conditioning.
It comes with a heat protection glove which I recommend using, as
Even more: Micro-porous technology looks in moisture to avoid split ends.
To sum it up: It’s very gentle on the hair, super duper fast, and your hair will be shiny beyond belief.

And now, excuse me, please. I have to go and play with my new toys.

Saturday was a big day, my first makeup workshop in Australia! It was held at Create Or Die studio in Marrickville.
It was so much fun and I am so grateful to for the wonderful team of supporters and partners that came on board to make it all happen.
I can safely say the long days and short nights leading up to the day were SO worth it.
The day went by so quickly so I was extra excited about the photos and I can’t wait to see the video, once it’s edited as well.

All guests were so lovely and curious. I was blown away by their enthusiasm and passion for makeup.
I really hope everyone took home new tips & tricks and is encouraged to try new products and techniques.
I could have not hoped for a better crowd!
Every time I mentioned a new topic one million more techniques and pieces of advice would come to into my head.
Questions were asked and new solutions demonstrated.

I could have made this workshop last for a whole week and still would have had more to share…
However I think everyone got a good taste and some insider tips during the day.

The workshop was a mix of tutorials shown on our pretty model Jessica and hands-on times, were everyone would have the time to experiment and try new techniques
on their own faces. Of course there was Champagne, drinks and nibbles as well.

I love a good challenge and bringing together an event like this was definitely a good one.
Thank you for all the wonderful people who contacted me already and asked for further workshops and invited me to come to their cities.
As international makeup artist, I love to travel and the Sydney Makeup Workshop was a great start.
I will get onto planning and we will make it happen, eventually!

Repairing Winter Hair & Dreaming About Spring

Posted on: Tuesday, July 29, 2014

photo

Repairing my dry winter locks with these luxurious natural products makes me dream of Spring, the subtle cherry blossom scent of the Essential Treatments line adds to this as well.
It was my first time using De Lorenzo products, but I have been curious about them for a little while.

When it’s busy and I still need my hair to be in good shape I started trying the De Lorenzo products, which are packed with natural botanical power ingredients to smooth away frizz and restore my dry ends instantly.
Not as messy and time consuming than my home made coconut oil treatment, the products are still natural, vegan and cruelty free.
My new winter hair repair routine is the Equilibrium mask, once a week, the infinite detangler after every wash and the protein complex whenever I find time.
Infused with rich plant based oils including organic rosehip, pure botanical extracts, and antioxidant vitamins and minerals to replenish moisture lost through wind, sun and chemical processes this range was exactly what my hair has been waiting for.

And voila, my hair is shiny and soft again and so much easier to brush through as well.
I am ready for Spring!

I recently had the chance to meet the amazing Lady behind cruelty free beauty online shop
Eva & Violet Cruelty Free Beauty. Both animal lovers we had a lot to chat about, including our fluffy pooches and our favourite products.
I love her selection of highest quality luxury cosmetics that are all cruelty free.
Toni herself spend a good time testing all this amazing products on herself and handpicked a selection
of her favourites which are now for sale on her website.

I just had the chance to try the incredible O&M hair products, which were just what my dried out winter hair needed.
As well as a wonderful firming eye cream by La Mav.
I just say: Long gone are the times were natural, organic and animal friendly products were the 2nd best option.
These product work, have fantastic textures and smell divine.
Have you tried O&M products yet? My nose and hair are impressed. And La Mav Skincare is a new favourite of mine, with highly potent plant complexes, the products feel good and keep my skin young looking and glowing.
And they even look super pretty in the bathroom.
Win-win-win-win-win-win situation.

Going For Gold

Posted on: Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Sparkly, metallic, shimmery or matte… I am in love with gold tones for makeup.
Blame it on the abundance of gorgeous autumn leaves behind my house…but I can’t get enough of this look.
So I thought I share my pro beauty tips on how to achieve this look:

From a sweep of golden shimmer to flashes of bold gold applied to the inner corners the eyes for an enhancing effect, this trend is the epitome of romantic and translates beautifully for an ethereal bride!
A good quality shimmer can also be mixed in with your lotion, to enhance collarbones or shoulders. It’s best to be applied with a good quality dome shaped makeup brush.

In the evening cheekbones, cupids-bow & bridge of the nose can be highlighted the same way sweeping the smallest amount along those areas with a dome shaped or contouring brush.
It’s important to keep glitter as an accent and to avoid too much all over use, to keep it elegant and timeless.
Golden shimmer suits all complexions, although I recommend warmer deep gold and coppers for dark skin tones and light soft honey golds for fair skin, rose gold can also work wonders on fair skin too. It’s good to test a little swatch of colour on your cheek to see which hue works best with your skin tone.
Please refer to the inspiration images for ideas of how to have a play with the new gold makeup products.
I love soft washes all over the lid, as well as more graphic statements.

A full lash line compliments the eye and the softness of this style perfectly, using several coats of a voloumizing and lengthening mascara, carefully brushed out to achieve a natural looking fullness and separation. For your wedding day I recommend using a water resistant formula.
The eyes will best be finished of with a very soft and natural brow, only filled in with a light powder, were necessary. A good helper to hold them in place is stroke of clear brow-gel.
The lips can be left nude or soft pink for a soft look or add a deep red lip for more drama and evening looks.

I love how this looks is catchy and captivating, yet subtle enough to work for brides too.
It perfectly translates from day to evening, which makes it super wearable too.

imagesProducts to achieve this Look:
Jane Iredale “24- Karat Gold Dust” in “Gold” a luxurious multi purpose shimmer with 24 karat gold content.

Jane Iredale “Double Dazzle” Dual-ended soft crayon pencil ideal for use as an eye liner or highlighter.
Two tones, deep gold and coppery red gold, to achieve brighten, lighten, and lifted look.

Jane Iredale “Dome” Makeup Brush (amazing quality ultra soft professional makeup brush)

All Jane Iredale products are suitable for a sensitve skin are cruelty free and have skincare benefits! As a professional makeup artist, I like to mix and match different brands.
Over the years I had the chance to work with all sorts of different brands and I carefully select those that deliver the best results and are consistent in their quality.
My professional makeup kit includes for example Chanel, Nars, Hourglass, Chantecaille, Make Up Forever, Laura Mercier, Stila, Shu Uemura, Mac… I only work with the most sought after international luxury and professional brands.

Luxury line? Yep, Eyeliner has just gone one step up! It is already a constant on all high fashion catwalks as much as in most of our staple makeup bag,
to sum it up: Eyeliner is amazing!!!

My favourite product form are Gel Liners. They are easy peasy to apply and they last and last and …. yes. You got it. Last.
They can mimic a defined line like a liquid liner or the smudge soft edges of a pencil, they can even be used in the inner rim.

Eyeliner suits any eye shape and colour and transform any look.

In my professional kit I use them A LOT. So I was super excited to hear that Jane Iredale just released a very luxurious version:
The Jelly Jar Gel Eyeliner. As usual the ingredients go far beyond makeup, they contain skincare! As they combine new technologies they pair natural coconut oil with silicones.
If you aren’t a beauty geek, never mind, you will love this regardless even if you can’t be impressed with new ingredient combinations and high tech formulas,
in the end what you will notice is a smooth easy application and lasting result.
I was instantly in love with the pretty little glass jar with the golden lid.
It is water resistant which makes it great for humid weather and weddings, or for the movie theater, when you watch one of those films…you know?

PRO TIP: If you always struggle to get a smooth line with your eyeliner, try using an angled brush! It will do the work for you as you just stamp along your lashline! No more excuses :)

Be my Valentine…Loving Mauve Glow

Elisabeth Olsen via

After a full on weekend with 2 weddings, 2 day of One Fine Day Wedding Fair and only 2 hours of sleep,
there were 2 little helpers getting me through it with a glow and big smile:
Jane Iredale Pommisst (mentioned here already, I know I know, it’s just tooooo goood!) and a little cream blusher called “In Touch” in “Chemistry“, a mauve that works great on my lips and as radiant contour cheek colour!
Small enough to fit in any clutch or bag, carry it with you it will need to be reapplied, as it’s sheer colour will disappear over time.
It only takes seconds and can be used with fingertips or a foundation brush.
I love the mauve look of Elizabeth Olsen in the above picture, which could be easily achieved with this colour product.
I wore the look the whole weekend and thought it’s perfect for Valentine’s! Don’t you think?
P.S: It smells of Chocolate and is all natural! YUM.

I though I share this as a mini post, as Valentines day is coming up and this is just the perfect duo to get the glow on.
There is an ever growing demand for natural products in my makeup kit, as clients request it and I love these as they have
a luxurious feel and advanced skincare ingredients. Pommisst is now a staple in my pro kit!

Thanks to Jane Iredale Australia, for sending me these products to try.

Hint Of Tint Jane Iredale Dreamtint Review

Posted on: Tuesday, October 15, 2013

janeiredale
With the hottest Spring on record here in Australia and sunny days all year around, I am always wearing a tinted moisturizer or foundation with SPF.
Jane Iredale‘s natural cosmetics have fascinated me for a while so I was super excited to try her new
Dream Tint formulas. She just launched a few new shades promoted as cc creams!
First the whole BB hype now CC? I think it’s not just the next hyped beauty trend, as professional makeup artist I have used
colour correcting primers for years. And a CC cream is essentially just that: A primer or tinted moisturizer that balances skin tones redness or patchy skin.
As I don’t have any redness or concerns with my skin I choose the Warm Bronze shade just warm my skin up a little.
It was actually much later than I expected just exactly matching my medium skin tone without warming it, which was a surprise.
It goes on very matte, and has a slightly waxy texture. It feels different to the average silicon heavy smooth tinted moisturizers.
The texture is very sheer and light, it can be used alone or under makeup as a primer.
Although it has a more velvet finish it still makes the skin look radiant as opposed to powdery matte.
It surprised me again, I found this formula is very long wearing and during a hot & humid day doesn’t move at all.
The packaging says it’s even water resistant! For me it’s the perfect summer product! A fuss free all in one product that is long wearing and doesn’t make me look shiny either.
It actually went straight into my little daily cosmetic bag, where I got to mention another plus, the small sleek bottle!
My staples for this spring are the Dream Tint, the Forever Pink Lip and Cheek Stain, which goes on the lips as a moisturizing sheer balm and then transforms into a bright summery pink shade, very long-wearing and smudge resistant.

IMG_4393
On my desk I have sitting a bottle of Hydrating Water Spritz, I love the Antioxidant Balance Hydration Spray, which is perfect for my combination skin. Although I don’t totally love the smell, (a little too zesty for my liking) the feel on the skin is lovely and the aromatherapy qualities recharge me instantly. And in the evening I pop on my new favourite red lipstick.
Makeup with skincare benefits, is the best!
Have you tried Jane Iredale products before?

I was lucky to work with the wonderful Luisa Brimble, who is an uber-talented photographer and just overall amazing person and the fabulous blogger Natalie form Eat Read Love on a fashion editorial shoot for a designer boutique in Cronulla, called ROAR.
If you are ever in the area, check it out! The shop is located in a former church building, and is just really worth visiting.

Are you liking the look? Here is how I achieved it:

The model sure was a natural beauty, so I kept her makeup very spring/summery and bare. I wanted to create an undone look, like a cool girl would achieve herself. Just emphasizing her features without the use of colour.
Base:
Starting with a hydrating toner by Tata Harper and massaging Jessica’s dry skin with nourishing moisturizer Vinosource Riche by Caudalie Paris/
Her gorgeous skin only needed a dab of foundation through the center, I chose Chanel Vitalumiere in 20, which gives a beautiful radiant sheen and Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal for highlights on the cheekbone & upper lip. I brightened her under eye area with By Terry Touch expert in Nr.3, then contoured her cheekbones with Benefit Hula Bronzer to sculpt the cheeks.
Eyes:
I used a nude eyeliner to open Jessica’s pretty eyes, dabbing clear gloss into the inner corners of her eye and just sweeping underneath her lower lashes with a soft liner brush and some warm brown eyeshadow. On the upper lid I soflty blended a wash of peach pink eyeshadow by Nars. The brows were filled in with a Laura Mercier Brow Pencil in Blonde and then brushed up with an Ardell Brow Gel.
After curling her lashes, I only used one coat of mascara to keep it more understated.

Lips: A tinted balm on the lip and ready was this super simple and natural look.

Hair: The hair was tonged in different directions, to create a random natural wave with texture and movement.

And now I am really in mood for Sydney Spring!
