I am really obsessed with grey diamonds!
GREY and also RAW diamond rings, seem to be so much cooler.

Dave said the other day he would love to design the engagement ring for his
one-day fiancee himself. He is a designer, so that would probably end up in a pretty fantastic piece of jewelry.
I saw that a lot of jewellery designers offer a bespoke service, which is really
cool if you have this stunning idea in your head and another plus is:
A ring like that will really be one of a kind.

Some girls do not think diamonds are their best friends. We are generally those sorts of girls. We don’t dismiss the humble rocks, we just think that jewelry can be pushed further than the boundaries of a single solitaire perched on a band. We’re very smart, you see. Ah, but see how smart we are when you swing this ring slowly in our line of vision. We drool, we covet, we get wobbly in the knees. Quote from Catbird NYC

Here are some awesome designers that could help you realise your ideas:
ORIA in London works with ethical sourced gold, silver and diamonds.
BITTERSWEETS in New York do rad custom designs as well.
Thomas Bartussek in Berlin is always open for new ideas!

And now: Go and get your sketchbook out!

alternatives to wedding bands

photos found here and here
I did some wedding tattoo research, though I am not totally into the idea.
I love real jewelry too much and also love the traditonal idea of exchanging the rings.
That would obviously not work with tatoos.
Anna And the Ring is on wedding band hunt.
As a doctor she has to wash her hands all the time and is not a massive fan of loads of bling on her hands. She already “has to” wear this stunning engagement ring.

For all the tatoo lovers among you or as an additional idea, ON TOP OF A RING ; ) , you can find my favorites above! As well as HERE & HERE

something old

As crazy as I am about new experimental jewelry designers,
as much I do like old/vintage jewelry.
It seems so very magical to me.
The other day I came across a random 2nd hand jewelry shop in our neighbourhood and it got me.
I started to think about the story they had to tell.
Some girls get really lucky by “inheriting” an engagement ring of the mother or grandmother of their
soon to be husband. I love Anna’s engagament ring.
And I can’t wait to attend her wedding in November this year.
She helped me out with a couch while I was flat hunting in London and she really is wild at heart and weird on top! And I have seen this ring in real. It is stunning!

incredibly cool “engagement” rings by Maison Martin Margiela via oki-ni
…and you better have a ring ; )
Here we are, in the brave new world, where the ladies propose to their boyfriends.
I loved East Side Brides “ How to propose to your boyfriend” post.
If you haven’t read it already do it NOW here!
And then please come back here, if you got inspired because
Liv wants to suggest an incredible cool engagement ring for your boy.

Using brass and silver, the rings shown above are brushed for a worn appearance.
(alright I am biased, because I am a HUGE Margiela fan and the very hot suits on the site aren’t helping)

add some color part I

sun-collage

Did I just say I am desparate for some sunshine? The latest collection of Dinosaur is inspired by the SUN.
All this powerful yellow, orange and red shades combined with gold are instantly getting me into summer mood.
Liv loves that the collection is presented on the naked body ; )

(Go,go,go away endless German snowy winter, please, Liv is a summergirl!)

I recently found a lot colorful designs that would match perfectly with a white dress and could be worn again and again.
My first “add some color post” is about the Sydney based jewelry/homeware design company Dinosaur.
The Team consists of Louise Olsen, Stephen Ormandy and Liane Rossler. They have managed to intersect the boundaries between art, craft, design, fashion and business without pause, and have applied the same creative energy and focused vision to each new opportunity. The Dinosaurs have forged an important place for themselves within Australian design history, not only through their longevity and popularity but also through the distinctively Australian character of their work, with many of the colours and forms they use evoking the casual lifestyle and vibrant natural landscape of Australia. -Brian Parkes Curator, Object Gallery
They also care about the environment in different ways, so you can be sure you’ll support sustainable designs.

rebellious rings

signet
images via Macha Jewelry

…Macha is about a quiet rebellion, not necessarily‘beautiful’, but not without nobility either, rough and warm-hearted and full of ripe character. It‘s witty, tenacious and defiant with an air of old fashioned peace…’

Oh yeah! You have to like a jewelry designer that describes her creations like that, right?
For me the pieces by Macha Jewelry look all really contemporary.
The way jewelry should look in 2010, if its not vintage.
I love that there are so many finds suitable for men.
Even outside the mens category on her website.
These stud signet rings for example or the big knot rings,
would make great unisex wedding bands.
And Liv especially likes the ones that combine silver and gold. For herself.

Uhm do you think I am writing too much about jewelry?

this comment of my dear Lady WestAussieWedding was killing me:
(…)It’s hotting up for Christmas here.. We usually eat a lot of seafood and fruit and go to the beach and watch the cricket.(…)
Fruit? Beach? WTF? Christmas on the beach. From now on I really should design beach wedding dresses and rad swimwear only and MOVE my butt.
Right now Liv can only dream, and get you some beach wedding inspiration.
The Sea Of Change collection by jewelry designer DEANNA COCHRAN would be stunning to wear as a beach bride.
Its all ethical jewelry and the pieces shown above are just one of a kind. Check it out here.

let love and friendship reign forever

800px-claddaghring-kopie

The Irish are well known for their rich tradtions.
One of their really nice wedding customs is the Claddagh ring.
The Claddagh Ring has remained very popular as an engagement and/or wedding ring. The symbolism is quite lovely. The heart in the design symbolizes love longed to be shared with one’s true love. The crown symbolizes undying loyalty and the hands symbolize friendship, which is, after all, the very foundation of love, with loyalty holding the two hands together.
“With my two hands I give you my heart, and crown it with my loyalty” and
“Let love and friendship reign forever” can be both found as meanings for the symbols together in this ring.
There are many legends about the origin of the Claddagh ring and true or not, the Claddagh has become an everlasting symbol of love and marriage.
Liv likes this story:

It starts with the likes of a fisherman who was kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery before he could marry his true love that remained behind in the Irish village of Claddagh. The fisherman ended up indentured to a goldsmith who taught him his trade. Thinking every day of the true love he left behind in the village of Claddagh, he decided to make a special ring for her should they ever be united again. He crafted a ring with two hands holding a heart, which had a crown above it. It was meant to represent love and friendship.
Eventually, the fisherman (now goldsmith) was released and he returned to his village. To his great joy, he found that his true love had waited for him to return and then he presented her with the ring, which became the betrothal ring. The ring then became synonymous with faithfulness too, as they both remained faithful to each other even when separated by adversity and distance.

awww! …and they lived happy ever after… Liv loves happy endings.

unchain my heart… (or why liv loves jewelry)

Unchain My Heart is the name of my favortite jewelry collection by sidvintage.
This looks really wild! Wanna have it all! Wear it naked…ok, got side tracked….
Nancy Bennett has a solid background in the arts, worked as production designer for video and commercials, and is now handcrafting amazing
jewelry inspired by remnants, histories and old stories.

Liv loves jewelry…and most of the time I am wearing loads!
When I was little my mum was a jewelry designer, and so
Liv was the only kid in primary school that had rings on all fingers, a nose piercing (my mum had to try it on someone)
and tons of jewelry.
I got so used to it, that today I feel naked without,
and most of the time even wear it during nighttime.
That’s the reality.
