Our wedding turned out to be a big DIY fest. Not that we set out to have it that way, it just seem to happen that we are surrounded by uber talented and creative friends that wanted to contribute to our wedding and so many things we did just seemed natural to do ourselves.
And yes, I did my own makeup on the day as well. I will share more about that soon!
As my hands were still busy working in the lead up to the wedding and I am a little bit particular about what I put on my body, I decide to do my own mani and pedi.
That way I could do it nice and fresh the night before the wedding and also pick my favourite nail products.
For the colour I chose Sienna Byron Bay, a toxin free, high quality polish brand.
I use them in my pro kit and they totally live up to my quality standards. Sienna Byron Bay produces their products as eco-friendly as possible. All their Australian made nail polish is produced using a professional, reduced toxin formula that is as clean as you can get. They also only use Cruelty-free, Vegan components.
I fell hard for the colour “Aura” which I used on finger and toe nails for the wedding. It’s a beautiful sheer pearly white.
(On honeymoon I used “Utopia” a stunning pastel mint green colour, that Dave was really over the moon about, good to have a designer husband!)
To prep my nails properly I used the brand new Weleda Nail Care Pen and Cuticle Softener Pen.
Both contain organic pomegranate seed oil, which is extremely high in antioxidants and promotes cell regenaration. The nail care pen is a staple in my bag now, also for days when I am not wearing any polish. It smells delicious, but not overpowering.
The Pomegranate Regenarating Hand Cream is another winner in the range. It absorbs very quickly and doesn’t leave the hands greasy at all. It’s a really great anti aging hand treatment as the antioxidant-rich, organic pomegranate seed oil helps to protect your hands from environmental influences that can cause the appearance of age spots.
The Cuticle Softener Pen, really made my manicure look professional and super neat.
How genius is Weleda ? I haven’t seen any natural or organic manicure products like these on the market.
They were a dream to use, toxin free and really worked a treat. They will be repurchased for my makeup kit as well.

Most of you would have seen and heard the news by now:
We just got married. And we have been on honeymoon!
If you followed the #livplusdaveequals on Instagram you might have seen some sneaky pics from peoples mobiles.
It will be a little while until we get our professional pictures…we can’t wait though.
I will share more detail & thoughts then. For now I can let you know that is was the most magical wedding weekend and so much fun.
I think we are still in the bliss bubble, although we are knee deep in work right now.
It’s like the best thing we have ever done! I will promise to share more actual thoughts and feelings on this matter.
The best news is:
Once I am back from some studying/training/further education this month there are many exciting things lined up for this little blog!
Yesterday I received an email letting me know that one of the wonderful weddings I created the natural bridal hair & makeup for has been featured over at The Lane.
The bride Jenna was one of the most fun ones I have ever worked with and check out all her beyond talented friends creating beautiful details for her wedding.
She is also founder of the boutique natural soap business Maple Soaps, which are the most gorgeous handcrafted vegan soaps, which smell delicous and are free
of any synthetic fragrance.
One of our enduringly favourite looks for bridal beauty is this supernatural face you created…how did you do it?
The right prep and base is key for this minimally beautiful look. Spritz you face with a hydrating mist, I currently love Gressa Purifying Mist. Then apply a high quality skin serum oil, for example Gressa Purifying Oil for radiant, well prepped skin. A cream highlighter applied to cheekbones enhances the bone structure. A sheer foundation like Vapour Atmosphere Luminous Foundation or tinted moisturizer buffed into the skin with a soft foundation brush evens out skin without masking it. For extra radiance & colour corrections try using Stratus another great product by luxury organic brand Vapour. Use a high coverage concealer like Au Naturale Creme Concealer only to cover redness or blemishes for an invisible flawless finish. Use a completely translucent powder only through the t-zone to keep excess shine at bay.
And the eyes, they’re ‘enhanced’ but not heavily made up…whats the secret to achieving that?
Start with hydrating the eye area. Tata Harper Restorative Eye Crème is a real winner. Evening out the eyelid with a hint of a tinted eye-primer or foundation. Apply a dab of clear gloss as highlight in the inner corners or alternatively a shimmery light eyeshadow like Au Naturale Creme Eye Shadow. A nude eyeliner on the inner rim creates an open eyed fresh look. Enhance your eyelashes by curling them and coating them with a natural effect Mascara like 100% Pure Black Tea Mascara. It’s important to make sure you apply the mascara right on the roots of the lashes to give that framing effect and a luscious thick lash line.
What about colour, what should brides keep in mind for a natural look but drawing on hints of colour like this?
The only colour I used on this look focusses on the lips and cheeks. This is very soft matte peach tone, which will enhance the skin tone. To create the soft focus hint of colour, I recommend using the same product for lips & cheeks. RMS lip2cheek in demure is a great sublte colour. Dabbing it on with fingers will create that subtle effortless chic. It’s best to carry the colour with you for touch-up’s of the lips on your wedding day.
And any final, expert tips?
Create a beauty ritual that you and your skin love as far out from the wedding as possible. I recommend keeping a routine that works for you and to avoid skincare changes closer to the day. Always choose quality products over quantity. I also believe that the actual beauty ritual is important: Take time to massage your skin daily or fit in the occasional professional spa facial massage, both will increase circulation and nutrition for the skin, delivering that glow from within and relax your facial muscles as well. Get used to keeping an hydrating spray on your desk and a multi tasking skin balm in your handbag to hydrate lips, cuticles and any dry areas in your face. This way your skin will be at it’s best in time for your wedding or any occasion you might have coming up.
My work as destination wedding makeup artist took me recently to Bali, I packed Dave into my suitcase and we stayed a for a few days after the wedding.
We were in luck when sydney wedding photographer extraordinaire Jo Bartholomew who also flew in from Australia was up to take some shots of us!
I love her work.
Not only did we have a blast on this shoot, we might have booked them to be our wedding photographers too…
Bali was nothing short of spectacular and I will share our personal travel photos on my personal bloghere real soon!
Catherine and David are in Love and it shows in every single image captured by Daniel Ferris.
Their magical wedding was featured over at Hello May today and I am not surprised.
The pure honesty and rawness of it had me fascinated immediately.
It really shows it’s NOT about all the little details, it’s really about the couple, LOVE, friends and family.
No fancy backdrop needed, flowers put together on the day by the groom and so many other irrelevant bits and pieces weren’t needed here.
This is the kind of wedding I love my job for this is what inspires me.
I love being a makeup artist in Australia every day. I love the places my work take me to and the wonderful people I get to meet.
There are days were I just feel incredibly lucky and grateful. Today is such a day.
And if you not already noticed how chilled and amazing this couple is, I will leave you with their wedding “theme”inspiration:
“Our inspiration was to throw the kind of party that we would want to go to – which particularly meant a natural outdoor setting (rain or shine – and we got both)” says Catherine.
I thought I feature a few more images from our recent Ophelia Editorial.
Originally for Hooray Magazine, some more before unpublished shots were now
featured at the gorgeous wedding blog Burnett’s Boards.
And as sparkle is always an option and I love anything golden, here some more
sequin goodness and flower veil imagery.

Alice & Jeremy’s wedding was just beyond magical.
With photos by the incredible James Day, a horse a bunch of monks form Tibet and a a custom made couture gown there was a lot of magical detail envolved.
I was happy to create the hair & makeup for the bride and her beautiful friends & family.
This is just one little preview shot I got to see along with a thank you note.

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to once more being part of a wedding with the incredible Tim Coulson as photographer.
I adore his work, it’s simply beautiful and has a certain honesty about it, he manages to capture people in a very different and beautiful way.
This wedding was really special in many ways. The bride & groom were from France, and had a small number of family & friends coming over from Europe to celebrate with them.
Somehow french always manage to keep everything especially tasteful, and while Eve the beautiful bride was pregnant and had a gorgeous little bump, she looked effortless and fashionable in her chic and sleek dress,
and only a french woman could carry of those big ruffles and still look elegant and timeless. Congratulations Eve & Guillaume!
Thanks Tim for sharing the pictures with me!
On the upside, I have been completely booked out with wonderful weddings & photoshoots!
On he downside I didn’t get the chance to keep this space up to date at the same time…
now that I am slowing down my week appointments coming up to Christmas while still being fully booked on the weekends for weddings,
I reserved some time today to catch up with everything on here.
So much has happened:
We got a fur baby; Dalston our little Havanese puppy came home 1.5 weeks ago, and we are loving him to bits. Weddings have been plenty and one more beautiful and more fun than the next one.
Private clients have been booking the week days with makeup for Christmas parties.
We had a super fun Christmas party with everyone from the One Fine Day at the Watson’s Bay Hotel.
We are planning to redecorate and refurnish our place, and are excited to find a new place at some time in the New Year.
We are happily staying here in Double Bay, for at least the next 6 months, enjoying the Summer by the beach.
I am loving my job more than ever and am so incredibly grateful how great my first year in Sydney was career wise and want thank every single client, bride & booking, thanks to everyone that referred me to their friends, colleagues and family members:
It means the world to me!
I will continue to update with lot’s of new pictures of current work, beauty writing etc. during this week.
I hope you will all enjoy and are prepping yourself for the new year and a wonderful Christmas time.
Lately I was lucky to travel to many many beautiful locations for weddings,
from Whale Beach to the Southern Highlands over the Hunter Valley (where I am somehow going every week at the moment) up north even further all the way to wonderful beaches near Forster.
I have seen Kangaroos with their young in the pouch, I have watched whales, really close up near the coast, I have had wonderful dinners and have met
inspiring and warm people along the way. Even after having done so many weddings, each bride is unique to work with.
My beautiful bride Marli, has already send through a little preview for me of her beautiful bohemian beach wedding (photographer James Billing) and
the loved up couple Kaitlyn & Viktor (will show you a peak soon!) have only been some of my recent highlights. Marli is actually the owner and mastermind behind her own brow bar where you can get THE best brows in Syndey, check it out!
I might do a little interview with her soon here on the blog! Didn’t she look stunning on her wedding day?
I appreciate my work and all the great opportunities I am getting every day.
I can’t wait to see where it takes me next. The next editorials, private clients and travels…the upcoming weddings,
master classes and collaborations. Ever involving, ever interesting. I love my job.
The above photos are a mixture of beautiful professional photos by Studiosomething and iPhone Pics of beautiful locations of recent weddings.
I am so grateful how rewarding my job is.
Lately I was lucky enough to always be able to work on the most wonderful weddings, meeting inspiring couples and families.
Hearing their love stories and get to know their own styles and unique personalities is what makes my job so special.
After a large and often very early wedding, I am usually very tired. The full concentration and giving everything for hours
and hours, I usually really need some rest afterwards. Even nicer when I then receive an email, text message or note from a bride.
These little Testimonials really make my day every time I receive one.
They make me want to do my very best each and every time, they want me to get better and better in what I do.
They want me to study on, learn more, keep practicing, coming up with new ideas, and always committing fully to every person that trusts to book me.
I have some exciting projects & collaborations lined up and am full of energy and new ideas.
Finally I feel I got a bit of a routine here in my new Australian life.
The latest heartwarming testimonials:
I can’t thank you enough for setting us up for the perfect day on Saturday. We appreciate that you came over so early to work your magic on us. Both you and Sonia did a wonderful job with the hair and make-up – the girls looked natural and beautiful and my mum was glowing! I couldn’t be happier. It has been such a pleasure working with you this past year, for my trial, my photo shoot and especially on the big day. Your relaxed nature and enthusiasm for what you do has made it a really enjoyable experience. Thank you so much for your huge contribution to our wedding day.
I will send you some professional photos when we get them!
Today was a bright and happy day!
