Magic Potion: Probiotic Skin Refiner by The Beauty Chef

Probiotic Skin Refiner Review Sydney Natural Beauty Expert Liv Lundelius copy

WE HAVE MOVED! PLEASE MOVE OVER TO OUR NEW BLOG: LIV LIFE MAG !

WHAT
It does feel magical when you find a potion that really stands out from the crowd and delivers instant and long term results.
My new love is the Probiotic Skin Refiner.
It is an exfoliator, skin hydrator and collagen booster all in one!
r. Rich in probiotics and lactic acid it helps to improve cellular turnover as it refines the skin and reveals an improved texture. Lactic acid naturally moisturises the skin and stimulates collagen production, promoting a more hydrated, moisturised and plump complexion. The gentle exfoliation keeps my skin glowing and prevents any congestion or breakouts for me.
As my skin is sensitive I personally stay away from scrubs. You can read my whole guide/post about exfoliation here.

HOW TO
I use it twice a day after cleansing my face. I just need to pour a few drops onto a cotton pad and apply the solution all over my face. I follow with moisturizer and voila: Done and glowing!
It doesn’t have any particular scent or smell to it and is completely liquid, like water.
As all The Beauty Chef’s products this little miracle worker gains it’s magical powers from the unique fermentation process that founder Carla Oates developed.
She is a very inspirational woman that knows a thing or two about natural beauty.

Have you tried the A-mazing supplements by The Beauty Chef yet? I am a little addicted. I used them as part of my pre-wedding beauty regime and have just kept using them.
My Mum got hooked too and I just had to send her a whole box over to Germany.

AS FEATURED IN
I have recently been asked by THE LANE what my magic potions recommendations are.
Check out the whole post for even more luxury clean beauty tips.
(Of course you will find my beloved Probiotic Skin Refiner in there as well!)

Uni Organics Review or Sleeping Beauty & the Good Day

uni organics review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert

WE HAVE MOVED! PLEASE MOVE OVER TO OUR NEW BLOG: LIV LIFE MAG !

I just had the chance to try out the beautiful anti ageing range by Uni Organics.
It’s the latest certified organic skin care brand here in Australia.
There is something very different about this range, that I noticed immediately: The textures and scents!
They seem very familiar as you would expect from any conventional high end luxury beauty brand.
Very pleasant and not too aromatic. Most natural organic brands have an essential oil smell to them,
or smell simply herbal (not that this is a bad thing!). The Uni Organics range however has sophisticated textures and a really pleasant soft creamy smell.
I think it’s the perfect introduction range, if you are changing from conventional to organic beauty products.
The packaging is travel friendly, hygienic and neat.

The ingredient list is cutting edge and on trend with the latest potent super foods for your skin.
For example: Kakadu Plum! I have seen it pop up everywhere recently, so I was really curious to learn more about it.
It’s a Australian native plant, which is extremely high in Vitamin C full packed with antioxidants.
Kakadu Plums also have anti-carcinogenic, anti fungal, antiviral and anti inflammatory properties.
This miracle worker is great for all skin types.

The Uni Organics Range focuses on anti aging with a straight forward compact range.
There is a cleanser “Perfectly Clean”, day cream “Good Day Face”, night cream “Sleeping Beauty”, a serum “Restore” and an oil “Repair” that I have tried.
I liked all of them!
(There are a also few additional products that I haven’t yet tried: A face mask, an eye cream and a face scrub.)
All of them are meant to be suitable for all skin types, with exception of the night cream which is not suitable for oily skin types.
In my experience the range is perfect for normal to dry skin, as most products are very hydrating and rather rich.
My skin loves it as it’s a little more on the dry side naturally, I am a combination skin type now that I live in Australia.
(besides random flare ups of oiliness and breakouts, when I am out of balance)

I like how the range is inspired by Aboriginal Australian Bush medicine and uses many local indigenous ingredients.
They have a lovely little explanation of the extracts they use and their effects on their website here.

Jane Iredale Skin Is In Review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert
bridal-hair-piece-3 2
Makeup By Liv Lundelius using Jane Iredale, for Bride La Boheme, Photography by Lana Ivanova

Jane Iredeale got it right! The new collection is all about the No Makeup Look, which I LOVE.
There is a new PureGloss colour called “White Tea” which is a sheer nude browny/beige colour, I love it, especially on medium to darker skin tones or summer bronzed skin.
“Flawless” colour blush, which has a very lovely neutral shade, just enough colour to give your cheeks that healthy flush without looking like you are wearing blush.
It’s also a matte colour, so it’s undetactable, no shimmer, no sheen. Quite a nice change after all the gloss and shimmer we have seen for years now.
(nothing wrong with it if you like shimmer and dewyness, I love it too and you can always add highlight!)
The Eyebrow Kit has had a revamp and is now called GreatShape and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it, it’s my favourite brow product which I use on myself every day and it’s the staple product in my pro makeup kit as well.
The Limited Edition Naturally Matte Eyeshadow Kit, is a real winner, with 5 (!) neutral and very wearable shades all completely matte. Jane Iredales matte shdows are never chalky though, they are richly pigmented and glide on very beautifully. It comes as a mirrored compact, which is very nice and flat, so perfect for carrying in your makeup bag.

It’s your no nonsense, quality basics kinda collection. Think Capsule Wardrobe for Makeup.
Good quality basics that you can actually wear day to day and that go with everything.
Well done Jane Iredale!

For the look above I have used:
Smooth Affair Primer, Dreamtint Tinted Moisturizer with Pure Pressed Powder, Great Shape Eyebrow Kit, Longest Lash Mascara, Naturally Matte Eyeshadow Kit, Brown Jelly Jar Eyeliner, Yummy Play On Lip Crayon, Moonglow highlighter (the lightest shade)

Sappho Cosmetics Organic Liquid Foundation Find

Sappho Liquid Foundation Review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert Organic Makeup Artist Sydney

I first came across Sappho via Instagram and was impressed with their all natural ingredient list, once I looked them up online.
Months later I have finally gotten my hands on some of their beautiful foundation, brushes and colours.
Sappho is an organic high end makeup brand from Canada. It’s been developed by the professional makeup artist JoAnn Fowler.
These range has definitely professional use quality. All Sappho cosmetics are paraben, gluten, talc, mineral oil and dimethicone free.
Which is great news for those of you, who prefer to use silicone free products.
To find a great natural foundation is always the trickiest, so let me focus on this and tell you more about the Liquid Organic Foundation:

The Cute Packaging
The Liquid foundation comes in 8 shades covering most skin tones. The bottle is a 30ml pump bottle. It looks very luxurious almost like glass, yet it’s a lightweight plastic. This is a real plus for professional artists.
(You have no idea how heavy my makeup kit is, so I prefer lightweight packaging if possible!) On the note of packaging: All the Sappho packaging is quite quirky and different, somewhat alternative and artistic looking.
All boxes are kraft paper coloured cartons with a painting illustration on it.
It’s one of these products that is actually good for your skin.

Beauty comes from the inside
But looks aside, what is actually IN this foundation:
This is a mineral foundation (no talc!!!) in an organic aloe vera juice and organic jojoba oil base. If you have read my post on oils, you know that jojoba oil is non comedogenic and very good for all skin types including oily and acne prone skins. It also contains frankincense which is known for it’s ability to boost collagen production. This makes this a great anti-aging foundation.
This foundation is packed with natural antioxidants and contains essential oils including organic calendula, neem oil, rockrose oil, meadowfoam oil, carrot oil, rosemary extract, lavender, roman chamomile and cedarwood.

The feel & finish
This foundation feels exceptionally light! No film, no greasiness on the skin. Yet it has lovely light reflecting properties and gives the skin a glow, in a beautiful, non shiny way.
It blends very easily, especially considering that no silicones are used to improve the texture. I prefer buffing it into the skin with the Sappho Blush brush. A super soft and very beautiful vegan brush.
It’s important to shake it well before application!
The coverage is medium. If you have severe acne scarring or pigmentation you will need a concealer in addition to this foundation, smaller imperfections are covered really well.
Of course the purpose of any foundation should never be to cover up a persons skin, it should rather enhance it! This is where Sappho Liquid Foundations scores all the brownie points.
If you prefer a higher all over coverage this foundation can be applied in a second layer without problems.
It smells of natural essential oils, and while they evaporate quickly the smell is fairly prominent when you apply it.
I personally really like the smell, it’s fresh, herbal and natural. I am using shade “Kate” which a nice tan/olive shade, great for me in Summer.

I was really impressed with the liquid foundation. It leaves your skin looking beautiful and like skin.

The “Undo” concealer is also tooo good to not mention it here! It works best blended together with your foundation and it immediately colour corrects and brightens dark circles.
A tiny bit goes a very long way with this.

Bridal Beauty Prep: Sparkling White Teeth

Opalescence Review Beauty Blog Teethwhitening

The countdown is on! Not long until our wedding day!
My overall beauty routine that I am sticking to in preparations for our wedding is based on all natural/organic products and holistic beauty therapies.
I do try my best to stay clear of all potentially harmful chemicals in my beauty products.
The one exemption to the rule was my teeth whitening treatment.
My teeth weren’t dark to start of with but I do enjoy my daily morning coffee and just wanted to find a simple way to brighten my teeth at home without fuzz.
While I use only organic toothpaste and mouthwash, I have never been able to find a natural whitening treatment. I prefer to stay away from any homemade DIY treatments when it comes to my teeth.
I simply don’t trust that these are safe. Many tips that I saw circulating online, just seem too abrasive or too acidic and I don’t recommend experimenting too much.

An easy way to lighten your teeth is probably something that many of you are looking for, so I thought I share my experience with Opalescense Go.
Opalescence Go is an at home whitening treatment available in different strengths. Opalescence tooth whitening gel contains PF (potassium nitrate and fluoride).
Potassium nitrate has been shown to help reduce sensitivity. Fluoride has been shown to help reduce cavities and strengthen enamel. Together they help to improve the overall health of the teeth.
It’s not any more natural, organic or ethical than any other teeth whitening treatment but it is recommended by and available at dentists. Actually, it is only available at professional dentists!
I found it definitely very gentle and super easy to use. I didn’t have any sensitivities and the trays fit well on my teeth, so there was so leaking of the bleaching agent onto my gums. They also have very pleasant mint flavour.
The actual trays a are clear and very flexible, so they will mold around your teeth very easily. I popped mine in while sitting at the desk doing my emails and it was super convenient.

There is a video on YouTube that shows how to use the trays.
I thought I better safe you from looking at potentially gross close up pictures/selfies of my mouth! I happily post some simley photos of my wedding to show you the bright teeth in a less offensive way.
I don’t know about you, but I am not a fan of ugly before and after pictures… I leave this to the real pro’s, so if you are keen on close up’s visit the Opalescence website.

I tried a package and saw a great difference after the treatment, I will now get another one to use just leading up to the wedding.

While this wasn’t an all natural alternative, I hope you enjoyed the post and I definitely recommend this to all brides to be.

Aromaflage – Fragrance & Mosquito Repellent

Aromaflage fragrance Review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert

The thought of spending my wedding and honeymoon covered in toxic, smelly deet mosquito repellent wasn’t really one that got me excited.
Yet with a Summer outdoor wedding and honeymoon in Bali (incl. dangers of Dengue fever etc.) I thought there was not much choice.
Mosquitos also REALLY love me, they smell me from far and I am in trouble.

If you are anything like me or you like traveling to South East Asia try Aromaflage.
I love the concept so much, it’s a beautifully designed fragrance in a luxurious bottle.
Actually there are two fragrances. Aromaflage and Aromaflage Wild.

They are all natural fragrance free of phtlates, parabens or any other nasties, yet they are as far as you can imagine from smelly citronella candles.
I would actually wear mine as fragrance even inside, it’s quite delicious.
Of course smell is very subjective and we all ike different fragrances, this one however is pleasant and not offensive in any way.
To repel mosquitos successfully you need to apply it liberally on arms and legs, which you won’t do with a regular fragrance, so you will go through this much quicker.
I also recommend trying a sample to make sure you don’t get an allergic reaction. Although it’s all natural it is yet very potent and concentrated and there is always the possibility to be sensitive.
This year there are also endless annoying flies in my area whenever I take my little Dog, Dalston, for a walk they are just everywhere.
I have been wearing just a little spritz of my aromaflage in the mornings and it also kept all the bugs away. And it does really work to repel mosquitoes!

Aromaflage Review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert

I am even more thrilled that the packaging is so beautiful and gold, (if you know me you know that I have a thing for all things white & gold)
After trying the small size, I will definitely get myself and the future Mr. a full size bottle.
This Summer I am prepared and I can smell nice on honeymoon too!

Green Beauty Brand Profile: Jane Iredale

Posted on: Wednesday, September 23, 2015

If you follow my Instagram you may noticed that I frequently use Jane Iredale products on set in my professional makeup kit.
I have written about some products in the range and reviewed some here and there, but I thought I give you a bit more background info about this brand.
I am quite picky when it comes to the selection of my makeup kit. The products really need to perform, last and also be suitable for a variety of skin types while keeping the allergy risk to a minimum.
Therefore I select pure products that soothe and calm the skin and are less likely to cause irritation.

Ethical
Jane Iredale products do exactly that! They are also certified cruelty free, which is VERY important to me personally.
Free of parabens, synthetic fragrance and other nasties they are a good choice for my green makeup kit. These products are mineral based and contain organic and natural extracts.
Coverage, application and texture are incredible. The Vitamins and antioxidants in the formulas are pharmaceutical grade and certified organic where available.

Performance
The best thing about Jane Iredale makeup from a pro perspective is the longevity: Even in very humid conditions and on long days this makeup lasts and lasts and lasts…. All the pressed products are also unable to hold bacteria as they are inert. This makes sure everything stays nice and clean and no germs get into the makeup onto your skin. A real plus for a professional makeup kit and your skin.
Jane Iredale is still family owned business by the founder Jane Iredale herself. She only produces high quality products and has a high ethical standard.

The difference
I have tried mineral makeup before and to say that I did not like it would be an understatement.
I found most mineral makeup to have a bad and limited colour selection, messy application, a flat, chalky and uneven finish, looking aging on the skin, emphasizing pores and dryness…
to sum it up: A total mess that I would never use personally or professionally.
The other confusing thing about mineral makeup is that not all minerals are safe or clean at all. Minerals can be polluted with harmful heavy metals or contain drying or harmful minerals
such as Talc or Bismuth Oxychloride.
That’s why I stayed clear of mineral makeup for years. Until I discovered Jane Iredale. Finally a brand offered intensive testing of the minerals used, ensuring safety & purity and at last performance!!! This makeup looks and feels good on the skin.

Natural?
Jane Iredale chooses to use silicones in their products for performance and improved texture. The chosen ones are never contamined with potentially harmful substances and considered safe. As mentioned before this brand has very strict testing of all their products and ingredients used.
Jane Iredeale chooses to do these tests, they are not required by law to do this. That is the real difference in quality that you get with this makeup.
While most other brands in my kit are 100% organic or 100% natural, Jane Iredale is not. There are certain synthetic ingredients used, however only if they are truly considered safe and non toxic. So I am happy to confirm that all products in my kit are cruelty-free and toxin free! Most natural beauty lovers use and love Jane Iredale, while others find it not natural enough.
I think everyone has to do their own research. I have had the chance to attend some training with this brand and researched a lot to clear up any misconceptions. In my opinion it’s a fabulous brand, that is also very upfront about it’s certifications and ingredients. They certainly meet my personal and ethical standards.
It does not green wash or use any misleading terms, yet is a brand that seems to truly care about it’s products, the environment and it’s clients.

Every Brides Dream
And boy, does this makeup work for brides! So many of my clients have emailed me with raving reviews saying they didn’t need to touch up their makeup and when they were dancing wild at the reception everything was still in place. Of course there is more to long wearing makeup than products alone (e.g. pro application, skin prep etc). I think that Jane Iredale products play a BIG role in the longevity of wedding makeup.

My new ambassador role
As professional and independent artist I will always use a variety of brands in my kit and take advantage of the freedom to pick and choose the best products available.
I have chosen to be ambassador for Jane Iredale, this fabulous brand! In my pro kit I am using a huge percentage of these wonderful products!
I can proudly say that I love to support this brand. I really hope you love it too!

I will follow up with a few looks where and how I have used these fab products on my latest work and editorials.

Oil Cleansing The Right Way – Make-Up Be Gone!

Posted on: Wednesday, September 9, 2015

trilogy cleansing balm review liv lundelius natural beauty expert sydney green makeup artist

Oil Cleansing is the most gentle and effective way to remove makeup and to clean your facial skin, without stripping it.
This way of cleansing melts down even waterproof eye makeup and dissolves all traces of makeup. Even if you don’t wear makeup at all, it’s amazing to cleanse your skin this way.
Many of you might be familiar with oil cleansing already, but I am always surprised how many people haven’t tried it yet.

Finding the right oil cleanser
It is important to find a high quality organic product or pure oil.
The oil or combination of oils should match your skin type. If you are congested and prone to breakouts it’s best to choose and oil that is non comedogenic.
(often hemp seed oil, pumpkin seed oil or jojoba oil work well for these skin types)
If you are in doubt google the comedogenic ranking of an oil, prior to buying it.
I have also previously written about how to find the right oil for your skin type.
There are many beautiful products out there for oil cleansing, like natural cleansing oils and balms.
Remember as usual check the label and look for certified organic, cruelty-free products.

A new very beautiful cleansing balm, perfect for normal to dry skins is the Trilogy Make-p Be Gone Cleansing Balm. With a blend of Mango seed butter, coconut oil, rosehip- and sunflower seed oil. It smells wonderfully of ylang-ylang, freesia and cedarwood. It also comes with a little organic cotton face cloth. A real treat before bed time.
But if you are on a budget or prefer single ingredient cleansing just buy yourself a high quality oil. I personally often cleanse with pumpkin seed oil and a microfibre cloth.
I store my pumpkin seed oil in the fridge and just decant a weeks worth into a small glass bottle with pump which I store in my bathroom.

Using the righ cloth
Microfibre cloths work wonders as they don’t hold bacteria and dry pretty quickly after use.
It’s best to wash them with a gentle hand or body wash after use, rinse, wring and hang to let dry completely.
After 3 or more uses I often give mine a gentle machine wash.
There are pretty sweet ones like the Jane Iredale Magic Mitt. It’s a pink mitt, super easy to use and from amazing quality.
This one has been designed to be used just with water. It actually works! If your skin is sensitive to everything, you can try using it on it’s own.
I prefer using microfibre cloths together with oil. If you just want a simple no frills option, you can find microfibre face cloths in most pharmacies or supermarkets.
If you prefer more exfoliation and a completely natural option you can also use an organic cotton cloth.
As it will take longer to dry and the natural fibres can hold on to bacteria, you will need to wash it more often.

Step by Step Guide

1.Always apply your product (balm or oil) onto the DRY skin first.
2.Massage the oil or balm in circular motions with your fingertips. This will help circulation but also dissolve any makeup or grime from the day.
If you are wearing eye makeup also gently massage the eye area and lashes.
3.Wring out your cloth in warm water and gently wipe away the oil and makeup. You might have to repeat this step a few times, until you feel clean.
4.Use a toner and moisturize your skin. Have a good nights beauty sleep. :)

Oil cleansing is definitely recommended for night time but some people prefer doing it morning and night.
Experiment with what works best for your skin.

Spring Skin – Fresh and radiant

Posted on: Thursday, August 27, 2015

la mav sweet orange cleanser review liv lundelius sydney natural beauty expert green makeup artist sydney

I can’t tell you how excited I am for Spring! I have seen the first beautiful blossoms blooming, here in my street and they make me smile every time I walk past.
I already told you how I got my body glowing in time for Spring, now it’s time for the face!

The warmer temperatures will also have an affect on your skin. All dry skin sufferers will welcome the warm weather, while for those of you with oily skin the battle with shine and congestion will start once again. Everyone will benefit from exfoliation at this time of year.

My own skin already started showing a shiny t-zone throughout the days this week, along with a little congestion: Two signs reminding me to adjust my makeup and skincare routine!
I am switching over to a new cleanser, incorporate a cleansing mask twice a week and switch to a clarifying toner. Perfect timing to review the La Mav Purify and Clean range. My skin is combination and it does change with the seasons. I have also lately been prone to breakouts and congestion, so I feel the need to change my routine. (of course there are many reasons for this and nutrition, stress levels, sleep etc. play a big role in break outs!)

Spring Cleanse
If you have read my general advice, I am always preaching about very gentle cleansers and I love oil cleansing myself,
more about that soon!
Yet sometimes I feel the need for a no fuss cleanse! The La Mav Sweet Orange Foaming Cleanser is just that and much more :) It has wonderful anti aging properties, which makes it perfect for adult acne,
or congested skin in your 30s and beyond. I really love how this cleanser doesn’t dry, yet really balances my skin. The smell is very mild and pleasant.
Bilberry extract along with Sugar Cane extract helps purify, cleanse and exfoliate the outer layer of the skin encouraging cell turnover and strengthening the surface of the skin as well as refines and unclogs pores.
My skin feels refreshed and supple afterwards. The cleanser has a liquid gel texture (which reminds me of Cetaphil for those of you who know it, yet Cetaphil is of course NOT natural and includes too many questionable ingredients for my liking!) La Mav of course is all organic and packed with beneficial toxin free ingredients! This cleanser also removes makeup with ease. It’s basically perfect!

Spring Tone
The Purifying Toner is another one that a fantastic anti aging product while balancing oil and preventing congestion!
La Mav knows their stuff and really developed a great range for oily skin, beyond teenage years.
This toner refines the pores and assists in maintaining the skin’s natural pH balance. Basically: Making oily/combination super happy without drying.
Formulated with Melissa water and Bilberry extract to tighten and firm, this toner delivers clean, smooth skin. Yay!

Spring Detox
The Green Clay Detox Mask is recommended to be used every other day (I have been using it twice a week, to to a busy schedule!)
Yet I found the results great! The mask comes out very smooth and is easy to use unlike many other messy clay masks that I have tried.
Due to the green clay it has a light green colour, which looks very healthy to me. The combination of white and green clay helps to absorb impurities and control excess oil.
Fruit acids and extracts exfoliate to reveal plump skin and reduce the appearance of pore size, while Marula Oil hydrates and protects the skin.
It’s an award winning mask that does what it says.

La Mav Tamanu Oil Review Adult Acne Tips Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert
Spring recover
Did you read my introduction post on oils? There is a little miracle worker, I haven’t mentioned yet: Tamanu Oil!
It has very healing properties and is known as amazing treatment for acne scars and sunburns.
I have been using it on scars and am amazed about how powerful it is.
I even started using it on a scar on my foot, which stems from an accident 2 years ago and it has faded the darkness and softened
the skin immensely. Apart from it anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, Tamanu oil promotes new tissue formation, accelerates wound healing and stimulates cell division (more new cells = healthier skin). You can use it as main ingredient in DIY face masks or as nightly restorative skin treatment I highly recommend having a bottle of this miracle elixir, especially if you wish to brighten and heal acne scars.

Winter Skin Good Bye with Eco Tan

Eco Tan Winter Skin Instagram Review
Eco Tan Review Liv Lundelius Natural Beauty Expert
This Winter has been feeling extremely long. I am still sipping hot tea next to the heater while typing this, so I guess it’s safe to say that I have gotten used to the mild temperatures here in Australia. I am even getting a little bit pale.Naturally I am a medium skin tone, tanning very easily and I do get pretty dark during the Summer months. My skin is yellow toned and I feel it looks best sun kissed. I believe all skin tones are beautiful from the fairest milkiest white to the darkest chocolate brown, and of course we all suit our natural skin tone. As makeup artist I observe skin tones constantly as it’s important to find the right colour match when applying makeup. My yellow skin can get a little sallow in Winter so I do prefer a little bit of a tan glow.

I am quite low maintenance (for someone working in the industry) with my personal beauty routine and really like products that work and a beauty routine that I can do at home.
While spray tans are super popular here in Sydney (and thank goodness there are now certified organic self tan options available!) I prefer a quick DIY job in my own bathroom.

Self Tanning at home
So I was very intrigued when I heard about Winter Skin by Eco Tan. Winter Skin is a lotion in a pump bottle, which is a body moisturizer with a hint of buildable self tan. It’s THE solution to just warm up your skin, super easy to use. It has no stinky fake tan smell and keeps the skin hydrated. I simply exfoliate with the Extreme Exfoliating Glove in the shower and use the Winter skin as I would my usual body moisturizer and then wash my hands thoroughly. Done! If your knees, elbows and feet are dry make sure you exfoliate and hydrate them before using any self tan. This one is pretty foll proof though, as the colour is just a believable little hint of tan. No need for a tent or cleaning the bathroom afterwards, just a quick and easy thing to do. It can be used a few days in a row until you achieve the desired colour. Love it! It really helps as well to even out the skin and I feel ready to expose my legs now that Spring is around the corner.I might need a bottle for Summer to even out any tan lines before the wedding…(I will let you know if I do and if it works!) I think this is great for beginners, anyone with very fair skin, or
people like me that find it too stressful to go for beauty appointments. If you however want a deep professional spray tan, Eco tan actually has professionals that can do this for you.

Why Organic?
If you know me or have read this blog before you know how passionate I am about anything organic.
To me it’s the best lifestyle to ensure we can sustain this beautiful planet in the future.
Organic food and cosmetics protect the environment, the animals and also our own health as humans.
Of course I could go on and on why it is so important, but chances are you know this already.
Otherwise I might write up a separate blog post.

Of course I all for the quality certified organic ingredients throughout the whole Eco Tan range. It has been tested in Australia to be toxin free and it’s also vegan. I recommend this range to all my brides, if they are thinking about getting a fake tan for their wedding day. Of course always book yourself a trial appointment for a tan before the wedding day,so you can confirm the right colour and also make sure you don’t have any allergic reactions. Now we can all get a truly healthy glow!
In time for Spring…

How To Find The Right Oil For Your Skin Type

Posted on: Tuesday, August 11, 2015

trilogy oil review Liv Lundelius Organic Makeup Artist Sydney

Why do some people swear by using pure oils on their skin, while others try to stay clear of oils completely after bad break out experience? Why are oils all the craze right now and how to know which one to use? If you are a beauty nerd and love to know more details read on. If you are just after a quick What-product-to-buy-guide, scroll down toward the end of this post :)

What’s in an oil?
It’s important to realize that all natural carrier oils have a different composition of fatty acids,
making them suitable for some skin types and purposes, yet not for others.
All oils contain a different percentage of Oleic Acid and Linoeic Acid.
Many skincare brands combine different pure oils to get the right balance and a variety of benefits.

Why oils are better than creams, lotions & co
Moisturizing your skin with certified organic plant oils is possibly the best thing you can do for your skin.
Pure plant oils provide moisture and nutrients to your skin without any fillers or aggressive preservatives. Water is usually the first ingredient on the list and therefore contained in the highest percentage in your moisturizer, due to the high water content moisturizers and creams will always require preservatives while pure oils don’t. You basically get more bang for your buck and higher quality as water is nothing more that cheap filler. Plant oils are very versatile and can help to balance oily skin with over active oil glands while moisturizing the very dry skin.

How to find the right oil for my skin?
Below is a guideline on which oils commonly work the best for the different skin types.
You might have to experiment to find the oil that works best for your skin.
If your skin absorbs the oily quickly and nicely, not leaving it shiny,
but rather supple, moisturized and healthy it’s right for you!
You want the oil to absorb, without leaving any residue behind.

Dry Skin
In a nutshell: Oils that are high in Oleic Acid are best for dry skin.
These oils very rich and nourishing and feel oily on the skin.
Some of the best oils for dry skin are:
Macadamia Oil
Avocado Oil
Almond Oil
Apricot Kernel Oil
Sea Buckthorn Oil
More balanced oils that can also work well for dry skin:
Jojoba Oil
Flaxseed Oil
Argan Oil
Coconut Oil (Unrefined)
Coconut Oil (Refined)

Combo/Oily Skin
Oils that are high in Linoleic Acid are best for oily/acne prone skin.
These oils are light and help to reduce clogged pores.
For example:
Safflower Oil
Black Cumin Seed Oil
Hemp Seed Oil
Evening Primrose Oil
Pumpkin Seed Oil
Rosehip Seed Oil
Grape Seed Oil
Soybean Oil
These are well balanced oils also good for oily/acne prone skin:
Jojoba Oil
Pomegranate Oil
Sesame Oil

Extremely Dry Skins
If you are very very dry or live in a very cold climate, your skin might ask
for something more. In this care try Coconut Oil or Plant Butters (e.g. Shea-, Cocoa- or Mangobutter), which are also amazing for the body.
These oils are high in Palmitic Acid and not recommended for acne prone skin.

Look For Quality & Keep it Cool
It’s important to look for certified organic oils of best quality.
If you use an oil that is high in Linoleic Acid, it’s best to keep it in the fridge,
as they tend to go off very quickly otherwise.

How To Apply
Usually only a few drops are needed and oils are best applied on damp skin. I love spraying my face with some hydrating mist before applying oil. The right can be used morning and night instead of moisturizer.

Great for ageing skin, dry skin and adult acne.

Intelligent Nutrients Renewing Oil Serum: Based on Safflower and Argan Oil and Grapeseed Oil this one is very high in Linoleic Acid and therefore great for balancing oily skin, combination skin and also suitable for acne prone skin.

THE Luxury Lip Balm – Henné Organics

Posted on: Monday, August 10, 2015

Liv Lundelius Organic Luxury Makeup Artist Sydney Henne Organics Review

My possibly favourite lip balm ever is Henné Organics.

I have shared this picture already on Instragram before, but I thought
it’s certainly worth mentioning again.
The quality of this product is outstanding and this exactly what founder Laura Xiao is all about.
“If there’s one unifying thread that summarizes my current path in life, it is quality. I seek quality in friendships, quality in love and quality in material things.”
Well said and extremely well done.

This little miracle moisturizer is certified organic, non toxic and not tested on animals.
It feels smooth and nourishing and tastes absolutely delicious, thanks to all the wonderful
ingredients.
And it comes in a glass jar, which makes it perfect to use in my green makeup kit as organic makeup artist.
It’s an allrounder great for dry areas like cuticles, elbows and can even be used as highlighting gloss on the skin, if you are in a pinch.
Of course it’s safe to use on your little ones as well.

I have a feeling this one might receive cult status really quickly.

Ready For Spring: Jane Iredale ‘s Latest

Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Review Liv Lundelius Organic Makeup Artist Sydney
Jane Iredale Review Organic Makeup Artist Sydney Liv Lundelius

The temperatures in Sydney have been rising and with so many sunny days over 20 degrees lately,
I am beyond excited about Spring. The nights and mornings are still very crisp and I am sitting next to my heater,
sipping on herbal tea as I type this.

There are more good news: Jane Iredale is launching some beautiful new products in August and I was lucky enough to have a little play and preview!

PoreAway Technology in Smooth Affair
With the warmer weather around the corner, our skins will get often more oily and the humid weather will melt makeup off our skins much faster.
You know I am a bit of a fan of the Smooth Affair Primer already, which is excellent for dehydrated, dry and mature skins.
Now it has a little Sister: Smooth Affair For Oily Skin ! It’s just as lightweight and hydrating as the original formular,
yet it smooths out open pores and makes your makeup stay on longer even on oily skin.
They have even named and registered the Pore Away Technology. I like how the formula absorbs quickly and feels like nothing is on the skin! Many primers that claim to do the same thing leave that typical silicone primer residue behind, yet this one is undetectable. The last thing you want on an already oily skin, is another heavy layer on top.
It creates a soft focus effect due to minerals which colour adjust to your skin. The product looks milky translucent and goes on clear. The pretty golden tube is travel friendly and perfect for my kit. The finish is smooth and matte and keeps shine away.

Jane Iredale PlayOn Review Swatches Organic Makeup Artist Sydney
PlayOn Lip Crayons!
I am a bit of a fan of these already and have recently used them behind the scenes on some photo shoots, with amazing results.
They glide on so easily, are very moisturizing, yet the finish is not too glossy, rather satin.
And the colours? O M G . Just perfection. Really on trend and including the prettiest neutrals that look somewhat hip and fun
and never boring or old fashioned. I have also been blending different lip colours together to customize them.
I don’t even have a favourite as all seven shades are all so pretty. That’s why I gave you some swatches on paper…
Yet on the lips they are way more vibrant and lucious. I liked them so much that I actually got worried they might be a limited edtion…
I immediately asked the Jane Iredale team if the PlayOn Lip Crayons are here to stay.
Thankfully they did confirm quickly that these amazing crayons will become part of their permanent range!
Phew. I am relieved. And I can play on :) These beauties will launch real soon here, keep your eyes peeled!
For absolute makeup minimalists: You would like the Lip Drinks in Buff (nude) and Crush (berry) they are lovely sheer tinted lip balms.

Pure Lash – Lashes Lashes Lashes
Lashes (along with brows) are possibly the biggest ongoing beauty trend of the last few years, with women using growth serums, permanent eyelash extensions and falsies have become a staple for evening makeup.
Personally I love my mascara and wear it daily. I like long, full lashes, yet I like them to look natural and I have used organic or natural mascaras for some time.
It’s important to keep in mind how important your eye sight is and sensitive eyes are not to be messed with in my opinion.
Jane Iredale has released another great mascara, free of nasty preservatives or petroleum based ingredients.
Pure Lash Lengthening Mascara, actually conditions and protects your lashes with Panthenol and Wheat Protein.
I like the effect and texture it gives, not too gluggy, it manages to separate the lashes very well.
As will all mascaras I always find the application is most important.

Pure Pressed Eye Shadows
These are not new but rather a staple within the eye makeup range.
I like them in my pro kit because they are so gentle and safe for sensitive eyes.
They can also be used wet or dry and are super versatile. Due to the pure pigment
they can be used on brows, cheeks or lips, depending on the shade.
These are the shades being promoted for the new season:
There is “Forest” which is the most wearable, richest shade of a deep matte green. I have recently used it to create a dramatic smokey eye on dark hazel eyes.
“Iris” is a rich matte purple, great for stronger looks or to be used as eyeliner to make green eyes pop.
“Steamy” is a warm peachy soft red, pretty on blue eyes and also on cheeks. “Mermaid” is a soft shimmery pearly green, good as a highlighter with very little colour pay off. They all come as individual compacts which is perfect for a personal beauty bag,
however it is a little more tricky to use in my pro kit. As most artists would agree: We love palettes, as they are easier and quicker to set up.
I hope Jane Iredale will eventually design a system to create custom palettes for these great quality shadows.

All these products will launch on the 10th of August 2015

All Jane Iredale products are certified cruelty free, free of Paraben and Phenoxyethanol preservatives and all minerals are purest quality and tested for
purity and never contaminated with heavy metals, all products are suitable for sensitive skin and have been tested to be Hypo Allergenic.

Vapour Organic: Luxury Makeup

Posted on: Monday, July 20, 2015

vapour beauty organic makeup review liv lundelius green makeup artist natural beauty expert

You might have noticed a few raving reviews on here lately!
As I like to feature brands that I personally like to use, I usually feature only my very fav’s up here on the blog.
Just in case you were wondering… it’s not that I am not critical enough!
It’s rather that every product that makes it on here, has already been carefully selected :)
I like to keep things positive and all the products or brands featured are the ones that I really like and that stand out to me.
As Organic Makeup Artist I am so passionate about companies that get it all right.

I have recently already talked a little about Vapour over here and named a few faves.
This brand has previously already received tremendous love from Vogue beauty editors, so I am certainly not the first to discover this
outstanding organic luxury makeup brand.
Well deserved. The textures and finishes are simply beautiful and up to the highest luxury makeup standards and yet they manage to stay clear from harmful toxins.
If you didn’t believe that organic makeup works until now (which is of course sooooo wrong!!!) this brand will instantly change your mind:
Trust me! Besides that they just got the whole sustainable thing right, the products are produced with windpower and of course they are certified crueltyfree. These guys just got it all.
Okay, before I keep raving I better give you some more details about the products:

And now a little more detail about the products:
Atmosphere Luminous Foundation
If you like dewy skin you will love Atmosphere Luminous Foundation.
It comes in a stick, which is a little different, especially if you are used to liquid foundations.
It super handy though, doesn’t take up much space in your cosmetic bag and it travels so well, without the danger of spilling and leaking.
The packaging is beautiful and the twist mechanism is properly worked out and easy to use.
I warm the end of the stick on the back of my hand, before apply a few streaks across my face. Paying the most attention to areas with redness.
Next I use my fingers to blend the product. It moves very smoothly on the skin.
The scent is fresh and barely noticeable. The finish is what it promises: Luminous!
You won’t need much product: If used correctly, your skin will glow, but not shine; if there is shine, you have over-applied.
Try to use concealer where you are seeking extra coverage, rather than overusing the foundation of problem areas.
Of course if you are after a matte finish, have oily skin or want and all day lasting finish: This is not the foundation for you!
About the colour and shades: They got the shades spot on with a variety of natural and yellow toned foundations from very fair skin to very dark skin,
with 12 shades to choose from Vapour covers a way larger range than most other organic ranges, which is fabulous.
On normal to dry skin, this wears beautifully and it’s very silky. My skin still feels moisturized after the end of a long day in this Winter weather.
The current Sydney Winter feels pretty cold and endless to me and my skin has become a lot drier. My summer go-to foundations
simply don’t do the trick in this weather and with all the heating. Vapour Atmosphere Luminous Foundation keeps my skin hydrated and doesn’t show up dry areas unlike most other foundations.
It’s a dry skin saviour! I also combine it with Stratus for some extra glow and smooth the skin.

I have heard only the best about the liquid sister Atmosphere Soft Focus Foundation , which is supposed to be better suited for combination skin.
I can’t wait to order myself this one as well, so far I have not yet used it professionally.

Stratus Instant Skin Perfector
Again this product comes in stick form or as liquid, depending on skin type.
The stick is best to be used with the stick foundation on drier skin, the liquid goes with the liquid foundation on combination to oilier skin types.
I used the stick and again think that’s so practical and easy to use.
It’s a colour correcting makeup primer with the same silky texture as found in the foundation.
It comes in 3 different shades to balance different skin tones, but the product itself has no colour.
I warm the stick on the back of my hand and then apply were extra glow is desired and on areas that need smoothing, due to larger pores or fine lines.
This magical stick perfects the skin and can be used on it’s own, if you are after a very natural look and if you have already even beautiful skin.
It’s very moisturizing and has light reflecting properties which help to blur any imperfections.

Mesmerize Eye Colours
Smolder & Embrace make the perfect soft smokey eye on the go, super fast blended with fingers, the Mesmerize Cream Eye Colours are very beautiful.
Best suited for people with dry eyelids or can also be used as base with your favourite mineral eye shadow powder over the top for extra longevity.
On myself they won’t last on their own due to my oily eyelids, but I still like to use a light colour to highlight the inner corners of my eyes.

Aura Multi Use Blush
The Aura Multi Use Blush is an easy to blend blush stick,
that can also be used on eyes and lips. I love it the most as blush. My eyelids can be to oily for the product to stay put, on my cheeks however it lasts and lasts and lasts…
On shoots it’s brilliant and very pretty on eyes.
The perfect bridal blush or every day work day blush! No brushes needed, it transforms into a silky texture that goes on easily with fingers.
I love the colour “Spark” which is a very healthy warm tone. Of course you can blend it with a brush as well. Hooked!

I am currently using Vapour on set a lot, so I will also update you with some professional photos of makeup looks I have created with these products.

Yesterday I received an email letting me know that one of the wonderful weddings I created the natural bridal hair & makeup for has been featured over at The Lane.
The bride Jenna was one of the most fun ones I have ever worked with and check out all her beyond talented friends creating beautiful details for her wedding.
She is also founder of the boutique natural soap business Maple Soaps, which are the most gorgeous handcrafted vegan soaps, which smell delicous and are free
of any synthetic fragrance.

Liv Lundelius Natural Wedding Makeup Sydney

I was also interviewed and asked about my tips on how to create my signature natural makeup look, as seen above.
I thought I share it here with you, along with with best products to achieve this look:

One of our enduringly favourite looks for bridal beauty is this supernatural face you created…how did you do it?
The right prep and base is key for this minimally beautiful look. Spritz you face with a hydrating mist, I currently love Gressa Purifying Mist. Then apply a high quality skin serum oil, for example Gressa Purifying Oil for radiant, well prepped skin. A cream highlighter applied to cheekbones enhances the bone structure. A sheer foundation like Vapour Atmosphere Luminous Foundation or tinted moisturizer buffed into the skin with a soft foundation brush evens out skin without masking it. For extra radiance & colour corrections try using Stratus another great product by luxury organic brand Vapour. Use a high coverage concealer like Au Naturale Creme Concealer only to cover redness or blemishes for an invisible flawless finish. Use a completely translucent powder only through the t-zone to keep excess shine at bay.

And the eyes, they’re ‘enhanced’ but not heavily made up…whats the secret to achieving that?
Start with hydrating the eye area. Tata Harper Restorative Eye Crème is a real winner. Evening out the eyelid with a hint of a tinted eye-primer or foundation. Apply a dab of clear gloss as highlight in the inner corners or alternatively a shimmery light eyeshadow like Au Naturale Creme Eye Shadow. A nude eyeliner on the inner rim creates an open eyed fresh look. Enhance your eyelashes by curling them and coating them with a natural effect Mascara like 100% Pure Black Tea Mascara. It’s important to make sure you apply the mascara right on the roots of the lashes to give that framing effect and a luscious thick lash line.

What about colour, what should brides keep in mind for a natural look but drawing on hints of colour like this?
The only colour I used on this look focusses on the lips and cheeks. This is very soft matte peach tone, which will enhance the skin tone. To create the soft focus hint of colour, I recommend using the same product for lips & cheeks. RMS lip2cheek in demure is a great sublte colour. Dabbing it on with fingers will create that subtle effortless chic. It’s best to carry the colour with you for touch-up’s of the lips on your wedding day.

And any final, expert tips?
Create a beauty ritual that you and your skin love as far out from the wedding as possible. I recommend keeping a routine that works for you and to avoid skincare changes closer to the day. Always choose quality products over quantity. I also believe that the actual beauty ritual is important: Take time to massage your skin daily or fit in the occasional professional spa facial massage, both will increase circulation and nutrition for the skin, delivering that glow from within and relax your facial muscles as well. Get used to keeping an hydrating spray on your desk and a multi tasking skin balm in your handbag to hydrate lips, cuticles and any dry areas in your face. This way your skin will be at it’s best in time for your wedding or any occasion you might have coming up.
