Holistic Bridal Beauty Prep: Hack For Happiness & Radiance

Don’t we all want to be the best version of ourselves on our wedding day?

Besides getting fit, looking after your skin, getting healthy shiny hair and beautiful nails there is one more element to my bridal beauty prep.
And this is possibly the most important for me: MEDITATION and self care.
I want to feel happy and relaxed on the day, I want to be patient with my family and my partner.
I want to feel comfortable in my skin, I want to be healthy and filled with energy.
Marriage is a new exciting chapter in life and I want to feel ready for it.

In my job I have seen many brides that have burnt themselves out in the lead up to the wedding.
Which so upsetting to see. Brides with severe breakouts, flu, colds, anxiety, stomach issues or anger and emotion overload,
deprived of sleep and feeling anything but beautiful.

Just as important as our beauty routines are our thoughts and beliefs.
We all know that stress can cause breakouts and other problematic skin conditions, therefore it is super important to take time out for little self love rituals along the way.
Take a deep breath and take my advice: You can not afford NOT to do this.
Meditation will change your life for the better. Taking only a few minutes a day it’s the quick fix you have been waiting for.
The benefits are even scientifically proven, just in case you are skeptic.

Benefits for the physical body:

Lowers high blood pressure
Lowers the levels of blood lactate, reducing anxiety attacks
Decreases any tension-related pain, such as, tension headaches, ulcers, insomnia, muscle and joint problems
Increases serotonin production that improves mood and behavior
Improves the immune system
Increases the energy level, as you gain an inner source of energy

Meditation is probably the easiest and most amazing way to prevent stress from manifesting in your body.
If you have trouble quieting your mind it can be a good idea to exercise prior to meditation.
This is a great way to release tension first so that you can really relax during your quiet time.
Another perfect time is first thing in the morning when you get out of bed.
Meditation truly improves your stress related skin issues and overall helps to find your true and positive self image.

Mental Benefits of Meditation

Anxiety decreases
Emotional stability improves
Creativity increases
Happiness increases
Intuition develops
Gain clarity and peace of mind
Problems become smaller
Meditation sharpens the mind by gaining focus and expands through relaxation
A sharp mind without expansion causes tension, anger and frustration
An expanded consciousness without sharpness can lead to lack of action/progress
The balance of a sharp mind and an expanded consciousness brings perfection

In my freelance schedule it can be tough to take time out for myself, so believe me, I know it is a big commitment when you are busy, but it will serve you and save time
in the long term. I found out that I just simply can’t sign up for any regular classes, as my schedule changes often with very little notice.
I signed up for an online yoga channel, which is genius. I can practice whenever I want, right here in my living room,
which works extremely well for me. They also have great meditations and overall info on their website.
I am sure there are many great similar sites, this is the one we are using: Gaia.
Yes, my man uses it too. :)

If you are happier to join a live class, do a little search in your local area and ask around for recommendations.
There are also some great guided meditations online for free or you can buy some audios by teachers that speak to you.
You can also simply sit in stillness by yourself without any guidance, but most beginners find that a little tricky to start of with.
Have you tried meditation yet? Feel free to share your experience.

One fun weekend this was! At the One Fine Day in Sydney.
While my inbox is overflowing and I am trying my best to get through the wonderful and overwhelming response of the last few days,
I wanted to share a few of my favourite vendors with you.
The One Fine Day girls where one of the very first people I got in touch with when I moved to Sydney and I have been part of the
magical fair right from the humble beginnings at Sun Studios. I can not thank the founders enough, I met so many wonderful people through
this event, even new friendships and of course a lot of business.
Now that we are getting married ourselves, we didn’t only exhibit but were also for the first time on the other side.
We were actually shopping around and locking in some vendors ourselves!

People often ask me which part of my work I enjoy more: wedding makeup or editorial makeup, but to be honest, I can’t quite decide.
I love both and I do both. That’s the short and sweet answer.
Of course all One Fine Day handpicked vendors are great in their own ways, but here are a few that I found are really worth mentioning and recommending to you,
if you are currently planning your own wedding as I had personally amazing experiences with them.

Hello May magazine! Be sure to check out their new “Real Wedding Special” a print book full of the most amazing real weddings.
All We Need Is Love -Celebrant Victoria Eustace is just super lovely all around.
Bridal trousseau – Luxurious Bridal Lingerie and also the most inspiring Instagram account
Natalija The Label – Lovely gowns to make getting ready even more fun!

In An Instant photo booth – Incredibly Fun Polaroid Photobooth being silly in front of their camera was my highlight of the weekend
Bondi Lashes – The best experience in lash extensions
Moira Hughes Couture– bridal dresses exuding luxury and couture skill. If you can’t find the right style in her collection, Moira also creates bespoke pieces.
Grew & Co Some serious jewelry design by the loveliest and most creative husband & wife team based in Sydney.

Jo Bartholomew Jo recently shot our very own engagement photos- nuff said!
Milton Gan – Finely Crafted Wedding Photography I met these guys right at the very first OFD and am always impressed by their big smiles and positive nature paired with professionalism.

Mental Springclean & The Busy Trap

Posted on: Friday, August 29, 2014

I can’t wait for spring and sunshine which really puts me in the mood for a good spring clean.
I started with a good apartment clean, followed by sorting through files and getting on top of organizing everything
and getting ready for the next season.
But also I started picking up my own meditation and Yoga practice and am in the process of getting back into a good
exercise routine and more fresh and detoxifying food.
I also limited my coffee intake to one a day.

I will cleanse my skin from the inside out. Personally I can always see when stress and busy times take over, how my skin reflects this immediately.
With the change of season I am doing an internal Spring clean, keeping clear of any negative thoughts, let the god vibes roll and
get my radiant skin back.
As I am a bit of a workaholic I really need to remind myself to keep a healthy balance.

Time for self care is so very important, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, regular exercise and quiet time…
It seems like the most simple changes have the biggest impact.
Today I had a day to myself (as we speak) time for Yoga, meditation, and pampering while getting normal house stuff done.
All the things that I haven’t gotten around to in toooo long.
The little things make all the difference. Today I am just happy and grateful for everything I have got.
A mental spring clean.

Do you ever fall into the busy trap?

Saturday was a big day, my first makeup workshop in Australia! It was held at Create Or Die studio in Marrickville.
It was so much fun and I am so grateful to for the wonderful team of supporters and partners that came on board to make it all happen.
I can safely say the long days and short nights leading up to the day were SO worth it.
The day went by so quickly so I was extra excited about the photos and I can’t wait to see the video, once it’s edited as well.

All guests were so lovely and curious. I was blown away by their enthusiasm and passion for makeup.
I really hope everyone took home new tips & tricks and is encouraged to try new products and techniques.
I could have not hoped for a better crowd!
Every time I mentioned a new topic one million more techniques and pieces of advice would come to into my head.
Questions were asked and new solutions demonstrated.

I could have made this workshop last for a whole week and still would have had more to share…
However I think everyone got a good taste and some insider tips during the day.

The workshop was a mix of tutorials shown on our pretty model Jessica and hands-on times, were everyone would have the time to experiment and try new techniques
on their own faces. Of course there was Champagne, drinks and nibbles as well.

I love a good challenge and bringing together an event like this was definitely a good one.
Thank you for all the wonderful people who contacted me already and asked for further workshops and invited me to come to their cities.
As international makeup artist, I love to travel and the Sydney Makeup Workshop was a great start.
I will get onto planning and we will make it happen, eventually!

Little getaways

Posted on: Wednesday, March 27, 2013

While I have been flat out with work lately, ranging from applying flawless wedding makeup to beautiful glowing brides, groomed and styled men fashion editorials and applied for some exciting opportunities.
I am a little flat out by now and can’t wait for our upcoming little Easter getaway.
We are going on a road trip down south to Jervis Bay in New South Wales.
Where you can watch dolphins and wales. We are staying in a little cottage right be water and I am daydreaming away already while typing this. Check out the cute little luxury cottages we are staying in!
I love how they are all painted in different beautiful colours and the interiors are looking amazing in all pastel tones too.
I am crossing all my fingers, that we will spot some dolphins!
For all of you that crave a little getaway or romantic weekend here in Sydney, I thought I share what we are up to right now.
And I can’t wait to pack my suitcase for this little trip. Only 4 more sleeps, and here is what I am packing:

Here is what I will bring with me for this little Autumn getaway:

Shoes: These are from Koah and look just like the perfect ankle boots for this trip.
A little Bag: French Connection Small Crossbody Bag.
Navy Nailpolish! This one is by Bio Sculpture.
A Hat: Jones New York Wide Brim Fedora
A natural lipstick: Like Nars Mayflower.

What are you up to this Easter?

Beauty tip of the month

Posted on: Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Emailed to me by my Dad! Thanks Dad. (source unknown)

I think this is very true. My yoga teacher in NYC taught me to watch my thoughts whenever I leave the house.
Like we always check our image in the mirror, which is fine, but wouldn’t help if we leave with miserable thoughts.
Good thoughts will make you look beautiful! Inside and out.

I am surprised how often I hear women I work with say things like: “I hate my skin.” Or “My skin looks awful/terrible…” etc.
Everyone has bad skin days, stressful days, or a flu from time to time, but there is no need to be that tough on yourself.
Have you ever noticed how your skin changes, when you are stressed, or ill?
I can tell the difference in my own skin straight away.

You can enhance your skin with makeup and enjoy and experiment with it.
Makeup can transform you, and of course you can cover uneven skin tone, blemishes and dark circles
with the right products and techniques.
I love makeup, I love my job. It’s so creative and versatile, and constantly inspiring.
I see makeup as a fun celebration of your own beauty, an artistic tool that can enhance your unique beauty.
I wish I could teach women in my makeup classes and makeovers how to love their skin more.
And to understand what an important and fantastic organ it really is.

Watch your thoughts! Love the skin you live in.

Pastel Spring Pixie

This morning I had some Yoga time in the sunshine through our living room window and painted my toe nails in pastels.
Yoga in the morning is a great exercise, and if you’d like to get started, you can use this great coupon for Patagonia gear to help you save.
Someone played the piano in our courtyard that someone has thrown out.
The latest issue of Dashing Magazine has been published this week.
I love the whole magazine and read it today for breakfast.
You can see above some of the shots of the hair and make up I have done for the Spring issue.
Now I am really in Spring mood. The sun tingels and looking at all these pretty pastels get’s me really excited. For Spring.

about supernatural nails and japanese food

Posted on: Tuesday, March 6, 2012

It’s the little things in life that are making me very happy, like coffee in the sunshine,
or a new nail polish.
Nails are huge at the moment. Which makes me happy, since I have always loved nail colours a lot.
I am still staying away from nail art and sticking with simple uni colourings.
The other day I met the girls behind the hip nail polish brand Rococo Nail Apparel, Ange and Vernice Walker.
The talented sisters have worked as nail designers and celebrity manicurists with all the big names and started their own successful little family business.
At the same time they are also 2 very humble and extremely kind sisters. No wonder they came so far. Real team work.
And not only where this two interesting to chat to and told me about their passion for everything Japanese, including a slight very healthy obsession with Japanese food, they also offered to paint my nails and chose the coolest colour, which I now own as well (it’s LabNude 6.0).
A mannequin nude, somehow vintagey, somehow clean but edgy at the same time. Or in Rococo’s words: Supernatural.
Thanks ladies! So very nice to meet you, you have made my day.

Wonderful quotes on marriage

Posted on: Wednesday, February 29, 2012

I am not married myself, but I love the whole philosophy behind it from a yogic point of view. I find it very inspiring.
The following quotes are taken from Yogi Bhajan Lecture Archive

“The one act to perform is for a man and a woman to merge as one.
If from this minute they merge as one, they amalgamate now, they shall succeed.

To make an alloy, you take two elements and put them together. The alloy cannot be separated. You can boil it, you can
form the alloy into a liquid, you can totally burn it, but once it becomes an alloy, it will totally keep its own quality, own
quantity, own weight, own molecules, own electrons, protons and neutrons, and own combination. Whatever made brass
doesn’t matter. Brass has its own faculty, own quality, own weight and own property.

Marriage brings happiness. It’s an amalgamation of two psyches. And when these two psyches are amalgamated, neither one
is an individual. There is no question of he and she. That’s it. There is no loss, there is no gain and there is no bank account.

And that is what love is, that is what marriage is, that is what life is, that is what good luck is. There are no two opinions about
it; when a male and a female merge together. That’s why we do it before God. ”

What does growing up mean to you?

Posted on: Monday, October 17, 2011

image via papier mache

Not long ago, I felt really far from being a grown-up.
27 has always been my idea of a grown up age.
Don’t ask me why. I turned 27 in January.
But was does it actually mean being a grown-up. Growing.
Our body stops growing in height when we are around 18 years.
Our mind will hopefully never stop growing.
Growing up to means to not cry over a lolly in the supermarket.
Literally. To me it means to start sharing what you have learned.
To keep up without complaining. To accept, without giving up.
To teach, beside sill learning.
To take yourself less seriously but to treat yourself and others with more respect.
My goals in life have lately drastically changed. So have my values.
Not that I am no longer full of silly ideas, and still a hopeless romantic, doing 100 different creative projects at a time…all that is hopefully never going to change. I am still learning, always.
But something is different.More Relaxed. Less drama.
Something happened within the last year. I feel more grown-up.
What does growing up mean to you?

the best thing about britain

The best thing about living in London is for sure all the great music.
All the little venues where you can see great talent all week long.
What I am listening to right now is Bombay Bicycle Club, sooooooo good on a Sunday.
Like today.
Their music is beautiful, though they look so young that they almost make me feel old.
And Dave.I.D. sooo good for partying. Just bought the album. My Dave loves it.
Check them out! Bombay Bicycle Club would make great wedding music as well…
