Natural Beauty Hangout & Talk

Feature-Liv-1024x768

I lately had the chance to speak to the lovely Juliet from Lace N Ruffles, who interviewed me for her hangout series.
Sharing the same values and love for natural products this interview was so much fun.
It’s so great to connect with others in the blogsphere and the article is filled with kindness.
It really made my day when I read it and all the lovely words she had to say about me and my work.
As you might have noticed, I have been flat out with work, traveling and non stop working and while I have accumulated
many great ideas and products that I want to share, there has been a little radio silence on this blog.
You can always follow my adventures on Instagram if you like.

In case you missed it, see the whole post here at Lace N Ruffles and read on for a little preview.

My current skin care routine:
I am always testing and trying new discoveries to keep up to date.

With my own wedding around the corner I really need to stop and get into a set routine.

However here is what I currently actually use:

♣ Morning:

Face skincare: I wash my face in the shower with La Mav Sweet Orange Foaming Cleanser, then tone with La Mav Purifying Toner (editor’s note: it’s won a place in our Top 30 Natural Skin Care Products under $30 list!). I use Tata Harper Eye Cream morning and night. Lately I have been using the Organic Spa range, which was recommended to me by a facialist. I love the results and that the products are toxin free, the smell I find personally not too great, but my skin really likes it. I use the day moisture as moisturizer and wrinkle defence serum.

♣ Night:

I remove my makeup with pure organic pumpkin seed oil and a microfibre cloth. If I feel like a deep cleanse I use the La Mav Sweet Orange Foaming Cleanser afterwards. I follow with Organic Spa Day Moisture and include an exfoliating treatment into my routine from time to time. The Organicsceuticals Night Renewal Treatment works wonders.
I have yet to establish my favourite routine for the upcoming months.

♣ Body skincare:

Dry skin brushing, Shower and Hydrotherapy with cold water is how I start my day. I use coconut oil on the wet skin, which helps it to absorb and lock in the moisture, it doesn’t feel greasy this way. I use pure almond oil on my fingernails and cuticles and coconut oil on my hair.

I hope you enjoy this little insight in my current routine and the full interview.

Holistic Bridal Beauty Prep: Hack For Happiness & Radiance

Don’t we all want to be the best version of ourselves on our wedding day?

Besides getting fit, looking after your skin, getting healthy shiny hair and beautiful nails there is one more element to my bridal beauty prep.
And this is possibly the most important for me: MEDITATION and self care.
I want to feel happy and relaxed on the day, I want to be patient with my family and my partner.
I want to feel comfortable in my skin, I want to be healthy and filled with energy.
Marriage is a new exciting chapter in life and I want to feel ready for it.

In my job I have seen many brides that have burnt themselves out in the lead up to the wedding.
Which so upsetting to see. Brides with severe breakouts, flu, colds, anxiety, stomach issues or anger and emotion overload,
deprived of sleep and feeling anything but beautiful.

Just as important as our beauty routines are our thoughts and beliefs.
We all know that stress can cause breakouts and other problematic skin conditions, therefore it is super important to take time out for little self love rituals along the way.
Take a deep breath and take my advice: You can not afford NOT to do this.
Meditation will change your life for the better. Taking only a few minutes a day it’s the quick fix you have been waiting for.
The benefits are even scientifically proven, just in case you are skeptic.

Benefits for the physical body:

Lowers high blood pressure
Lowers the levels of blood lactate, reducing anxiety attacks
Decreases any tension-related pain, such as, tension headaches, ulcers, insomnia, muscle and joint problems
Increases serotonin production that improves mood and behavior
Improves the immune system
Increases the energy level, as you gain an inner source of energy

Meditation is probably the easiest and most amazing way to prevent stress from manifesting in your body.
If you have trouble quieting your mind it can be a good idea to exercise prior to meditation.
This is a great way to release tension first so that you can really relax during your quiet time.
Another perfect time is first thing in the morning when you get out of bed.
Meditation truly improves your stress related skin issues and overall helps to find your true and positive self image.

Mental Benefits of Meditation

Anxiety decreases
Emotional stability improves
Creativity increases
Happiness increases
Intuition develops
Gain clarity and peace of mind
Problems become smaller
Meditation sharpens the mind by gaining focus and expands through relaxation
A sharp mind without expansion causes tension, anger and frustration
An expanded consciousness without sharpness can lead to lack of action/progress
The balance of a sharp mind and an expanded consciousness brings perfection

In my freelance schedule it can be tough to take time out for myself, so believe me, I know it is a big commitment when you are busy, but it will serve you and save time
in the long term. I found out that I just simply can’t sign up for any regular classes, as my schedule changes often with very little notice.
I signed up for an online yoga channel, which is genius. I can practice whenever I want, right here in my living room,
which works extremely well for me. They also have great meditations and overall info on their website.
I am sure there are many great similar sites, this is the one we are using: Gaia.
Yes, my man uses it too. :)

If you are happier to join a live class, do a little search in your local area and ask around for recommendations.
There are also some great guided meditations online for free or you can buy some audios by teachers that speak to you.
You can also simply sit in stillness by yourself without any guidance, but most beginners find that a little tricky to start of with.
Have you tried meditation yet? Feel free to share your experience.

Mental Springclean & The Busy Trap

Posted on: Friday, August 29, 2014

I can’t wait for spring and sunshine which really puts me in the mood for a good spring clean.
I started with a good apartment clean, followed by sorting through files and getting on top of organizing everything
and getting ready for the next season.
But also I started picking up my own meditation and Yoga practice and am in the process of getting back into a good
exercise routine and more fresh and detoxifying food.
I also limited my coffee intake to one a day.

I will cleanse my skin from the inside out. Personally I can always see when stress and busy times take over, how my skin reflects this immediately.
With the change of season I am doing an internal Spring clean, keeping clear of any negative thoughts, let the god vibes roll and
get my radiant skin back.
As I am a bit of a workaholic I really need to remind myself to keep a healthy balance.

Time for self care is so very important, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, regular exercise and quiet time…
It seems like the most simple changes have the biggest impact.
Today I had a day to myself (as we speak) time for Yoga, meditation, and pampering while getting normal house stuff done.
All the things that I haven’t gotten around to in toooo long.
The little things make all the difference. Today I am just happy and grateful for everything I have got.
A mental spring clean.

Do you ever fall into the busy trap?

Saturday was a big day, my first makeup workshop in Australia! It was held at Create Or Die studio in Marrickville.
It was so much fun and I am so grateful to for the wonderful team of supporters and partners that came on board to make it all happen.
I can safely say the long days and short nights leading up to the day were SO worth it.
The day went by so quickly so I was extra excited about the photos and I can’t wait to see the video, once it’s edited as well.

All guests were so lovely and curious. I was blown away by their enthusiasm and passion for makeup.
I really hope everyone took home new tips & tricks and is encouraged to try new products and techniques.
I could have not hoped for a better crowd!
Every time I mentioned a new topic one million more techniques and pieces of advice would come to into my head.
Questions were asked and new solutions demonstrated.

I could have made this workshop last for a whole week and still would have had more to share…
However I think everyone got a good taste and some insider tips during the day.

The workshop was a mix of tutorials shown on our pretty model Jessica and hands-on times, were everyone would have the time to experiment and try new techniques
on their own faces. Of course there was Champagne, drinks and nibbles as well.

I love a good challenge and bringing together an event like this was definitely a good one.
Thank you for all the wonderful people who contacted me already and asked for further workshops and invited me to come to their cities.
As international makeup artist, I love to travel and the Sydney Makeup Workshop was a great start.
I will get onto planning and we will make it happen, eventually!

I love seasonal fruit, and at the moment, the markets are overflowing with peaches, apricots and nectarines.
All of which have the most delicious looking colours.

My own summer makeup is currently inspired my peach tones.
And in the heat I like to keep it simple!
Peach cheeks and lips and even a wash of a fruity tone on the eyes.
And a hydrating face mist in the bag and I am ready to go!

My current favourite is Pommisst by Jane Iredale! It is an organic facial spritz with the added benefit of pomegranate extract, a powerful antioxidant.
And it feels and smells soooo good! And I love the pretty red bottle.

An Oldie But Goldie staple in my makeup kit is Stila Convertible in Gladiola for lips&cheeks & Nars Barbarella a sheer peach lipstick! What are your summer colour staples?

Another wonderful One Fine Day is coming up!

LIV LUNDELIUS – MAKE UP ARTIST
Thursday, January 23, 2014

As a young girl Liv Lundelius often recalls giving fashion styling and makeup advice to her mum and friends who, living in the German country side needed that little bit of extra help and confidence. She has since worked a number of events worldwide such as NYC, Berlin and London Fashion Weeks (pretty impressive!).

Liv has a unique passion for working with brides and enhancing their individual beauty, with subtle natural makeup. It is your day to shine so head over to Liv Lundelius website to view more of her amazing bridal make up.

Most memorable moment / idea/ experience that you have seen at a wedding you have worked on?
It’s beautiful each and every time to see family, friends and a happy couple all coming together to celebrate love. That in itself is the best idea ever.

Please share your best tip for a couple on their big day.
Be happy & and enjoy every moment of your day. Don’t worry about anything beyond your control, all that matters is that you are getting married to one another.

Just quickly complete the following sentences:

On a Sunday I like to:
Have a wedding booking ;) and otherwise sleep in and go for a nice long breakfast, a walk and some exploring with the camera and my little family.

A secret no- one knows about me:
I have never been homesick.

The one song guaranteed to get me on the dance floor:
Ha, there are so many. A better question would be if there is one song guaranteed to get me OFF the dancefloor ;-)

What can couples expect to see from me at One Fine Day:

Plenty of images of my previous work, a big smile and hopefully some great inspiration for their wedding day.

Come and meet me in person at the One Fine Day Wedding Fair!

Catching up , Christmas prep & Thank you all for a wonderful year!

Super fun “nerd” wedding of the creative couple Sarah&Damien photo by Thomas Stewart Photography

On the upside, I have been completely booked out with wonderful weddings & photoshoots!
On he downside I didn’t get the chance to keep this space up to date at the same time…
now that I am slowing down my week appointments coming up to Christmas while still being fully booked on the weekends for weddings,
I reserved some time today to catch up with everything on here.

So much has happened:
We got a fur baby; Dalston our little Havanese puppy came home 1.5 weeks ago, and we are loving him to bits.
Weddings have been plenty and one more beautiful and more fun than the next one.
Private clients have been booking the week days with makeup for Christmas parties.
We had a super fun Christmas party with everyone from the One Fine Day at the Watson’s Bay Hotel.
We are planning to redecorate and refurnish our place, and are excited to find a new place at some time in the New Year.
We are happily staying here in Double Bay, for at least the next 6 months, enjoying the Summer by the beach.
I am loving my job more than ever and am so incredibly grateful how great my first year in Sydney was career wise and want thank every single client, bride & booking, thanks to everyone that referred me to their friends, colleagues and family members:
It means the world to me!

I will continue to update with lot’s of new pictures of current work, beauty writing etc. during this week.
I hope you will all enjoy and are prepping yourself for the new year and a wonderful Christmas time.

Snacks in my job

Posted on: Wednesday, September 11, 2013

slimsecrets01
Those of you that have met me before or know me, know that I love healthy fresh food.
In my job a makeup artist with a very irregular schedule it’s not always easy.
Some photo shoots have fantastic catering with fresh fruits & salads, while sometimes there is hardly any food at all or other times just junk food and pizza.
I have written before on the importance of healthy diet for a good skin over here.

I need my breakfast in the morning to function properly but with starts that require me to get up as early as 3am sometimes (ouch!)
it’s impossible. Who can eat a full breakkie in the middle of the night? Exactly.

I usually bring some nuts and apples or prepare a fresh smoothie for on the go.
That’s why got super excited when I got send a care package of healthy snacks that are designed you fill you up not out.
Slim Secrets is a new Australian brand of snack bars and other little snacks perfect to carry around with me in my handbag.
While I think it’s super important to remember that fresh unprocessed food is always the best option, these bars are obvsly so much better than your average chocolate bar,
while tasting like the real thing (if I even remember what a real one tastes like…I haven’t had one for many many years)
I cut most sugar out of my diet, while I eat natural fruit and natural sweeteners which is enough for me and makes me feel healthier.
To get an extra energy boost throughout the day I really liked having these little bars with me though.

slimsecrets02

My fav flavours among the bars were: Night Time Binge Buster & Mintabolism Boost. But I kinda liked them all!
They also do cookies, Fit Balls and chips if you prefer savoury snacks!
I don’t do diets, I know there is no shortcut or “secret” to staying healthy and fit but moderate exercise and healthy fresh food.
So these snacks are no secret trick to stay slim, just a healthy-ish snack alternative to regular chips or chocolate.

If you are on the road a lot, def try these little treats.

What I liked about this snacks:
They are high in fibre,
low or free of sugar
full of goodies like seeds, and antioxidants
easy to bring on the go
SUPER TASTY
Just the right size for a snack
There are some for breakfast early times, some for night time,
some for afternoon caravings

What to think about:
They are a good alternative to unhealthy conventional snacks
They should not replace meals or fresh snacks
They taste so good that I am tempted to eat more than one bar in one go ;)

Note: I have received free samples, however all my opinions are truly my own and in no way biased and I was not paid to write a review.

I love my job- thoughts on being a makeup artist

Posted on: Thursday, July 18, 2013

68603_518608841493695_1676553946_n

Have I lately told you how much I love my job?

Well, in case I haven’t : I love my job a lot. And even more.
Everything about it. And I am striving to keep learning and building on my skills.
Being a make up artist, is such a rewarding job.
Not two days are ever the same, I am constantly meeting new people and that inspires me.
Connecting with people and creating something beautiful.
I feel so grateful that I am able to do what I love.
It’s definitely one of those job’s where you never stop learning, which is perfect for my curious self.

Fashion VS Weddings

I love every little bit about it.
Making the decision to become a freelance makeup artist was one of the best I have ever made.
As many of you know I do two different kinds of work, makeup for brides/private clients AND fashion/editorial work.
The two are very different from each other and I truly love them both.
Working weddings and being able to make the brides look their best is such a fabulous job, however also very challenging.

There is a common myth in the makeup artist world, coming from artists, that do weddings, although they don’t enjoy them, doing it “just for the money” or as their “bread and butter”, referring to their brides as if they would be the worst task on their to do list.
Even to the point that some artist think that no good makeup artist would do weddings. I work for the love of it. Life is tooooooo short to do anything that you don’t truly enjoy.
I feel I am wasting my time if I spent it with things that I don’t really care about, and I can only do a good job if I am enjoying and loving my work and bringing all passion and focus to it.
And yes, I dearly love the fashion work as well, the creative, quirky side of my job, meeting new people, listening to vibes & trends and finding a way to mirror whats happening on the catwalks and on the street.

The Best Of Both Worlds
So here is the truth: Many of the worlds best and most famous makeup artists are working on weddings!
I love weddings full stop. I even used to design wedding dresses and am just totally in love with LOVE.
A hopeless romantic that can’t get enough of real love stories, it’s the right environment for me.
I have not worked on any tacky weddings or with any bridezillas ever.
I have only ever worked with beautiful people inside and out.
And I don’t take on every client either, if I find they have a completely different style and philosophy about beauty, I do turn clients down from time to time too.
Another thing that really surprises me is that fashion and weddings are still seen as too almost opposite industries by many.
It’s time to wake up and see the signs!
There are so many fabulous fashion designers creating wedding dresses today, there are magazines like Vogue Brides who are highly editorial and so many wonderful online magazines like The Lane and countless blogs that show that fashion and weddings belong together!
Recently Refinery 29 features regular wedding posts as well, and I think the trend is for fashion and weddings to go hand in hand.
There is so much more room for creativity and opportunity to splurge on great design or simply loose yourself in your best ever DIY projects.
Not that every wedding has to be a fashion spectacle nor an over the top event.
But where else can you wear couture gowns, big head pieces or get a professional hair and makeup artist?
I love the big and the small weddings, the simple and the extravagant ones.

And I find it’s time for fashion&weddings to grow together!
I will try and find a nice balance here on the blog in the future.

I am looking forward to all the coming years and where my career will take me.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this LONG post!
What do you love about your job?

New season, new shoes & a new home office

Posted on: Wednesday, June 5, 2013

This is not about weddings or makeup, this is just about me and new work life over here.
Winter is very different here in Sydney.
I am from Germany, where winters get bitter cold and the atmosphere completely changes.
Although it’s chilly now and I do turn the gas heater on in the evenings, drink tea, eat pumpkin soup and sleep with hot water bottles on my feet,
during the day it still feels nice enough to sit outdoors in a cafe.
Some trees loose their leaves, but the city is still very green even now.
I wear shoes without socks even in winter! It’s amazing. My favourite new little “winter” shoes are pretty ballerinas, from House of Harlow 1960.
A little treat to make Winter time more fun.
I think I can safely say, I like Winter over here, a completely new experience for me.

While weddings are slowing down in June and July over here, there is plenty of admin to catch up on for me.
My beloved laptop just died, and after being a little confused and upset for a week, I am now all set up with a spanking new iMac,
which makes me feel all settled.
Winter work consists of plenty of paperwork, admin and business planning.
At the same time also of realizing my own makeup projects for my portfolio and collaborating with some wonderful people.
While most people in the industry are taking time off, I take time to settle in and organize myself for the busy season ahead.

I am only now finally getting into a bit of a routine in my new Sydney life and feels very good.
