Strobing – A tutorial And Best Products

Posted on: Monday, August 3, 2015

best products for strobing best highlighters pro makeup artist

Strobing seems to be the latest craze. The reality is far from it:
Pro Makeup Artists have been using this technique forever!
Just without anyone knowing. With the abundance of beauty youtubers, bloggers & instagrammers everyone seems to be in the know,
trying out and experimenting with professional makeup techniques.

What is Strobing?
It is a highlighting technique that can be used together with contouring or on it’s own.
It’s way more foolproof than contouring and the effect is also very suitable for day time makeup looks.
Strobing can be done quickly and is an easy technique, which is probably another reason why it’s so popular.

How does it work?
You simply need to apply highlighting products to the highest points of your cheek bones and along the nose,
as well as in the corner of the eyes and on the cupids bow of your lips.
Highlight only what you really want to emphasize, because you will draw attention and light to the highlighted areas.
Cream and liquid highlighters usually work best and are most popular. However if you want more longevity or have
naturally oily skin you can also try to use powder highlight.

Mistakes To Avoid
You need to find a highlighter that works with your skin tone.
Avoid icy pink shades if your skin is medium or tan in colour or if you want to do for a bronzed look.
The cool and frosted shades work best on fair and light complexions.
Golden highlighters looks best on yellow toned skin with a light tan.
You want the shimmer to look believable.
Use a matte bronzer and blush to make sure you don’t sparkle all over.
The effect only works if there is a difference between the highlighted and not highlighted areas.

Which products work best?

The RMS Living Luminizer is a professional makeup artist favourite.
This one is not too sparkly and leaves the skin slightly glossy, like all rms products, it comes as cream in a glass jar
It has a very soft champagne tone it is subtle and sheer and adapts to most skin tones.

A great one that comes with a little bit of colour and is suited for medium to tan yellow tones
is Jane Iredale In Touch Highlighter
It has a warm peach colour that works best as blush highlight combo for the cheeks or warmer skin tones.

A gorgeous golden and strong highlight is the Au Naturale Organic Creme Highlighter which comes in a stick.

A powerful powder highlight is Adore Loose Illuminiser that comes as a loose powder.
This one looks especially great on fair skins.

Gressa Skin has a wonderful liquid highlighter, the Minimalist Illuminating Face Serum which works great on all skin types, including oily skin or skin prone to breakouts, as it contains unique botanical oils and are balancing to the skin.

Step By Step Guide:
Find a well lit mirror. Duh! ;)
Prep:
1.Exfoliate your skin, any bumps will stand out even more on highlighted skin, so make sure you prep your skin well.
2.Hydration is a must for any makeup look, especially for dewy and radiant looks.
3.You can also use a hydrating primer if you like. This will help to smooth open pores and make your skin look more flawless.
I like Smooth Affair Primer by Jane Iredale.
Conceal:
Apply your base, be it just a light tinted moisturizer or a full cover foundation according to your needs.
(Caution: If you use powder foundation a powder highlight might sit better on top than a liquid product.)
Use concealer to hide any blemishes or redness.(you can also apply your blush and contour now if you wish)
While in dewy editorial looks a radiant dewy base can be combined with strong highlighting, I recommend keeping the balance
for everyday wear, wearing a more natural looking not too dewy base and a subtle highlight, to avoid looking too shiny, oily or sparkly like a discoball.
For more mature skin you can achieve strobing with satin finish products that provide a sheen, rather then sparkles.
Highlight:
Apply your highlighter of choice: On top of the cheekbones using fingers or blending brush, along the bridge of the nose and on the cupids bow of your lip.
A little highlight in the inner corners of the eye also looks lovely, and will open the eyes, making them appear to me wider set.
Avoid highlighting areas with blemishes or areas that you don’t want to draw too much attention to.

Yesterday I received an email letting me know that one of the wonderful weddings I created the natural bridal hair & makeup for has been featured over at The Lane.
The bride Jenna was one of the most fun ones I have ever worked with and check out all her beyond talented friends creating beautiful details for her wedding.
She is also founder of the boutique natural soap business Maple Soaps, which are the most gorgeous handcrafted vegan soaps, which smell delicous and are free
of any synthetic fragrance.

I was also interviewed and asked about my tips on how to create my signature natural makeup look, as seen above.
I thought I share it here with you, along with with best products to achieve this look:

One of our enduringly favourite looks for bridal beauty is this supernatural face you created…how did you do it?
The right prep and base is key for this minimally beautiful look. Spritz you face with a hydrating mist, I currently love Gressa Purifying Mist. Then apply a high quality skin serum oil, for example Gressa Purifying Oil for radiant, well prepped skin. A cream highlighter applied to cheekbones enhances the bone structure. A sheer foundation like Vapour Atmosphere Luminous Foundation or tinted moisturizer buffed into the skin with a soft foundation brush evens out skin without masking it. For extra radiance & colour corrections try using Stratus another great product by luxury organic brand Vapour. Use a high coverage concealer like Au Naturale Creme Concealer only to cover redness or blemishes for an invisible flawless finish. Use a completely translucent powder only through the t-zone to keep excess shine at bay.

And the eyes, they’re ‘enhanced’ but not heavily made up…whats the secret to achieving that?
Start with hydrating the eye area. Tata Harper Restorative Eye Crème is a real winner. Evening out the eyelid with a hint of a tinted eye-primer or foundation. Apply a dab of clear gloss as highlight in the inner corners or alternatively a shimmery light eyeshadow like Au Naturale Creme Eye Shadow. A nude eyeliner on the inner rim creates an open eyed fresh look. Enhance your eyelashes by curling them and coating them with a natural effect Mascara like 100% Pure Black Tea Mascara. It’s important to make sure you apply the mascara right on the roots of the lashes to give that framing effect and a luscious thick lash line.

What about colour, what should brides keep in mind for a natural look but drawing on hints of colour like this?
The only colour I used on this look focusses on the lips and cheeks. This is very soft matte peach tone, which will enhance the skin tone. To create the soft focus hint of colour, I recommend using the same product for lips & cheeks. RMS lip2cheek in demure is a great sublte colour. Dabbing it on with fingers will create that subtle effortless chic. It’s best to carry the colour with you for touch-up’s of the lips on your wedding day.

And any final, expert tips?
Create a beauty ritual that you and your skin love as far out from the wedding as possible. I recommend keeping a routine that works for you and to avoid skincare changes closer to the day. Always choose quality products over quantity. I also believe that the actual beauty ritual is important: Take time to massage your skin daily or fit in the occasional professional spa facial massage, both will increase circulation and nutrition for the skin, delivering that glow from within and relax your facial muscles as well. Get used to keeping an hydrating spray on your desk and a multi tasking skin balm in your handbag to hydrate lips, cuticles and any dry areas in your face. This way your skin will be at it’s best in time for your wedding or any occasion you might have coming up.

Tips for beautifully lasting bridal lips

One: It’s important to prep your lips and make sure they are smooth and hydrated. Besides drinking enough water in the lead up of your wedding, it’s a good idea to exfoliate your lips with a special lip scrub or with a soft toothbrush and some lip balm.

Two: Apply a generous layer of lip balm while you get your makeup done.

Three: When you are ready for lipstick, blot off excess balm and use a creamy lip liner in your lip colour or the colour of your choice to apply all over the lips. This will improve the staying power of your lipstick immensely.

Four: Stay with your natural lip shape and don’t draw outside of your lip line. If your lips are uneven you can balance them with lip liner to make them appear more symmetric. Once the colour fades it disappears evenly and you won’t be left with a scary outline of lip liner, which is never a good look.

Five: If you choose to wear a bright or deep lipstick shade keep in mind that it will transfer and stain your future husband. When kissing, many brides wear a lighter more neutral lip colour for the ceremony and a more colourful one for the reception.

Six: If you choose to wear red or bold lips, blot the lips with a tissue and apply another layer, you can repeat this step to achieve more staying power and a deeper colour.

Seven: Apply your lipstick with a lip brush for a professional finish, you will be much more precise.

Eight: Have your lipstick with you for touch-up’s after drinks, food and kisses.

Nine: Have fun and get married!

Ten: Live Happily Ever After.

I just received the latest issue of White Magazine and as usual it’s packed with beautiful inspiration, and honest articles on love, relationships
and marriage. For this issue I was asked to create a series of bridal beauty looks and hair trends for brides.
Here on the blog I share with you a little How-to on how I actually achieved these looks, together with
the products used and recommended products.

Luminous Blushing Bride
This look focuses on soft, radiant blush balanced with a subtle eye and lip.The only colour I used here is a radiant soft pink on the lips and cheeks.
Skin: Apply Inika Truly Organic Liquid Foundation with a soft kabuki brush.
It’s a great product but a very limited colour range.
It won’t mask the skin or lovely freckles while still evening out the skin.
Use a high coverage concealer only to cover redness or blemishes for an invisible flawless finish.
I applied Inika Light Reflect on top of the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and cupid’s bow.
Use ILIA translucent powder only through the t-zone to keep excess shine at bay at the very end.
Eyes: Start with evening out the eyelid with a hint of a tinted eye-primer or foundation.
Apply a dab of Inika Creme Eyeshadow in Pink Cloud to highlight in the inner corners and apply a Jane Iredale Peach Sherbet Eyeshadow.
Draw a thin line with Jane Iredale Jelly Gel Eyeliner in Brown along the upper lash line.
Enhance your eyelashes by curling them and coating them with Longest Lash Mascara.
Apply the mascara right on the roots of the lashes to give that framing effect and a luscious thick lash line.
Brows: Fill in eyebrows softly with Jane Iredale Bitty Brow Kit and hold in place with Pure Brow Fix gel.
Cheeks: ILIA Multistick in “All Of Me” to the apple of the cheek and warm into the skin using fingers
Lips: Ilia Karma Chameleon Lip Crayon adds the perfect pop of colour leaving the lips looking moisturized.

Wild Braids
Prep the hair with a heat protecting texturizing product and blow dry your hair to get a great shine and voloume.
I used Yarok Feed Your Roots Mousse and my H2D Hair dryer.
Part your hair in the center and just behind the ear.
Start braiding one large section from the front and secure the ends with an elastic.
Wrap the section across your forehead where you wish to place it and secure with Bobbi Bins.
Repeat on the other side and place just above your first braid.
Braid the last 2 sections and pin in place so the head is evenly covered.
Now start messing the braids up! Gently pull sections in the braids to create more texture and an uneven modern look.
Spray with hair spray to enhance shine and hold style in place.
A great natural spray is Yarok Feed Your Hold Spray

All looks are created with 100% luxurious, toxin free and/or organic beauty products that create professional results,
while being good for you. I feel these looks are so versatile that they easily go beyond bridal and could of course be worn by anyone.
I hope you enjoyed and I stay tuned for the next looks!

The Six Week Bridal Beauty Prep PART TWO Cleansing & Exfoliating

Posted on: Monday, April 27, 2015

Liv Lundelius Best exfoliating beauty expert tips bridal beauty prep tata harper resurfacing mask clearisonic skin glow celebrity makeup artist

You have still six weeks to go and I hope you enjoyed part one, on how to get your Body glowing.
Let’s focus on the delicate skin of your face next.
Without question, everyone can benefit from regular exfoliation by using products with AHA (alpha hydroxy acid such as glycolic and lactic acids) or BHA (beta hydroxy acid, also known as salicylic acid).
Each provides multiple benefits, including fighting signs of aging and breakouts! Stick to products free of unneccessary synthetic fragrance and always ready the label!

GET THAT GLOW! Yay for AHA & BHA

Exfoliate once a week with a gentle AHA and/or BHA peel. This is my personal routine, some people prefer to use a mild exfoliation daily or every other day, everyone is different. My skin looks best when I exfoliate 1-2 times a week.
There are pads, gels, masks and cremes containing fruit enzymes, glycolic, lactic or mandelic acids, some products use a combination of different AHA’ s.
AHAs are preferred for sun-damaged and dry skin because they exfoliate on the surface of skin and have the added benefit of also improving moisture content.
If you are prone to break outs use a BHA product that contains Salicylic Acid.
BHA is preferred for oily, acne-prone skin and for treating blackheads and white bumps because BHA can get through the oil that’s clogging your pores, normalizing the lining of the misshapen pore that contributes to acne.BHA has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial action. Those are two more reasons to use a BHA exfoliant if you have acne or sensitive, reddened skin.
Both AHA and BHA work to reduce fine lines, stimulate collagen, and firm the skin.
There is no need to to physically rub and scrub and your skin when using these products, they work by gently loosing up the “glue” in between the dead skin cells, so that the old skin can come off without any damage to your skin. You will be left with a radiant glow. One of my favourite ever exfoliating masks is by Tata Harper, it gives instant radiance and is very gentle. It smells heavenly and the jelly texture is so fun.
I had the chance to meet the wonderful Tata in person in London and have been a fan of her products since. The resurfacing mask is available in Australia via Lulu&Lipstick, an awesome selection of beauty products from around the world that are hard to get in Australia.

NAY to scrubs
Many scrubs have a rough and uneven texture that can cause skin damage by tearing into the skin, causing tiny tears that damage the skin’s barrier. Scrubs often cause more problems than they could possibly solve.
If you do want to use a manual scrub, you can simply use a gentle washcloth with your daily cleanser, which works just as well to exfoliate the surface of skin as any cosmetic scrub you can buy. As a bonus, washcloths are softer (thus gentler) and of course they don’t contain pore-clogging ingredients that oily, acne-prone skin doesn’t need. With all types of exfoliation comes sun sensitivity, mainly because there are fewer layers of cells as protection so be mindful of using your sunscreen and staying out of the sun while it’s at its strongest.
For daily cleansing I recommend a very gentle cleansing milk, oil or balm that doesn’t strip the skin.
If you are a fan of natural cosmetics or got very sensitive skin, try using pure organic coconut oil as makeup remover.
Another gentle and fabulous option to clean your skin is the Clearisonic.
Use the sensitive skin brush heads, they are the best choice from my experience.
I have the “Mia” which is a travel friendly version and I looooove it.
If you prefer a foaming wash for your face make sure you will buy one without any harsh detergents like SLS or synthetic fragrances.
For makeup junkies and daily foundation wearers I recommend a double cleanse:
Step 1: Removing Makeup with an oil based cleanser. Step 2: Cleanser appropriate for your skin type

Do you need professional help?
Trust your own judgement. Does your skin respond well to your home treatments and is clear and soft most of the time?
Well then keep doing whatever you are doing and invest in good products for your home routine.
Once you turn 30, it is wise to get a professional peel or microdermabrasion (if your skin is not sensitive and thick) treatment every other month to encourage cell turnover and keep your complexion clean, bright and youthful.
With all acids, my recommendation is to make sure you stay under a 25% concentration.
Over the counter products will always be 10% or lower, however if you get a professional facial, request a percentage that is no higher than 25%.
This way you are ensuring a good result without too much irritation.
Stay away from strong, medical peels that reach the dermis, which is the living part of your skin underneath the epidermis.
In my opinion, those types of treatments are too invasive and do more bad than good by causing intense edema [inflammation] of the dermis, which ultimately ages your skin.

Other things to do 6 weeks out:
If you haven’t already done it, this is a good time frame for your hair & makeup trial with your makeup artist and hairstylist for the wedding day.
Schedule in other beauty appointments like your regular cut & color, eyebrow appointments etc.
Get your beauty sleep, eat well, worry less, move more. Be Happy :)

Real beauty comes from within. Your skin says everything about the kind of lifestyle you lead and most skin problems originate internally – the body is one whole integrated system so what’s going on inside our bodies will show up on our skin as well. That feeling of inner health shows up externally on our face and skin more than the best facial ever could.
All parts of your bridal beauty prep program from nutrition & exercising to meditation are therefore having a huge impact on your skin. Further here are some beauty, tips and tricks that will ensure your skin and hair will be in best condition and excelling natural radiance. Now read on and get that glow!

The earlier you start to create a holistic fitness, nutrition and beauty regime the better.
Besides the 6 week week beauty plan I will go through more general beauty prep, tools, products and techniques and expert Interviews.
I always try to stay on top of the latest products and ingredients and hope to share some insider tips with you, while I prepare myself for my own wedding day.

6 Weeks to go: Exfoliate & Detoxify

BODY BEAUTY PREP

Now it’s time to start your regular exfoliating regime. It’s super easy to get your body glowing.
Try daily Dry Brushing: All you need is a natural bristle brush and a body oil.
Why? I have listed some amazing facts below:

Benefits:
Removes dead layers of skin and other outer impurities.
Stimulates and increases blood circulation.
Helps release fatty deposits under your skin’s surface.
Assists the eliminative capacity of your body’s organs.
Rejuvenates your cells.
Strengthens your immune system.
Increases muscle tone.
Improves skin texture.
Helps prevent premature ageing.

How? Read my Step-by-step guide to dry skin brushing:
1. It’s best to dry brush first thing in the morning before you shower. I do it after my morning run or yoga session. Start with light pressure until you’re used to the sensation, then move on to firmer strokes.
2. Use a natural bristled brush. Avoid synthetic or nylon brushes or gloves as they’re too sharp and can damage the skin.
3. Start with the soles of your feet, use swift upward strokes and brush from the feet, up the legs, working towards your heart.
4. Once you’ve covered your lower body, move to your hands and work up your arms toward your heart in the same manner.
5. Next , brush your back (that’s why it’s good to get a long handle brush).
6. Last, work on your abdomen (moving in a clockwise direction to follow the movement of the colon), chest and neck. It’s best to avoid your face as most people’s facial skin is too sensitive.
7. Brush for about three-to-five minutes until your skin is rosy and slightly tingly.
8. Always shower after you dry brush to wash off the dead skin.
9. Immediately apply natural body oil onto the wet skin afterwards. You can use a luxurious blend of Oils or simply use organic unrefined Coconut Oil. Read here how to choose the right one.

And last but not least just a few little precautions:
Avoid on sensitive skin, varicose veins, open wounds, inflamed skin or painful rashes, sunburnt areas, breasts and other sensitive areas.
Seek doctor’s advice before brushing if pregnant or if severely/chronically ill.
Stop brushing if an allergic reaction appears.

liv lundelius makeup artist beauty editorial beauty expert natural makeup
If you want to really enhance that new glowing body, and your wedding dress is showing some skin, try a light shimmer lotion on your wedding day to highlight your collarbones and shoulders or legs.
I recently fell in love with the Youngblood Mineral Illuminating Body Tint, which I have used on beauty editorials.
It’s an all mineral and natural product, really fabulous!

Enjoy and keep it up! Keep posted for part 2, which will tell you all about exfoliating the face. :)

I packed my own makeup bag for my upcoming Bali trip.
The natural mineral products by Ere Perez are especially good for humid weather and the natural mascara is waterproof so I can dip into the pool as well.
Here is my go to, beachy boho makeup look for hot summer days with Ere Perez makeup:

02erep
03erep
01erep

Start by using a BB Cream or tinted moisturizer with sun protection as a base on freshly moisturised skin, see one of my favourites here.

Next I use Sun Halo it’s a versatile highlighting cream bronzer, (or should I say bronzing cream highlighter?) with the most delicious vanilla smell.
Apply on the high points of the face with fingers or stippling brush to get an instant glow and sunkissed touch.
Use it on the bridge of the nose, cupids bow on the cheek bone and brow bone. It looks great on the eye lid too.
On the cheeks I use Bondi Blush the perfect blush for sunkissed skin. (although it suits pretty much everyone)
Just a hint on the apple of the cheek applied with a blush brush or small powder brush.
A hydrating lipstick Moisturising Macadamia Lip Colour “Me” is the perfect natural lip colour in a caramel brown, which makes my teeth look very white. WIN!
If you have a fair complexion try the colour “YOU”. It also protects my lips from the harsh UV rays.
I use a hint of Sun Halo on the lid and apply volumising waterproof mascara in Black

Done! There you have it a super quick and easy summer holiday look. I hope you enjoyed it.

Bespoque Beauty

Sometimes it seems that although there is an overwhelmingly large number of cosmetics on the market already,
there is nothing that really works for your skin.
I am sure we have all been there.
Moments where we might need to seek professional help of a dermatologist or try to customize our routine with the help from all sorts of different brands of
cleansers, serums, oils, day- and night creams etc.

I always tell everyone I work with that everyone’s skin is different.
Each persons skin agrees with different ingredients and textures.
While grouping the skin into skin types helps, it can only be a very rough guide of what your skin needs on an individual basis.

That’s why I have such a huge variety of products in my makeup kit and constantly lug two very heavy suitcases with potions, lotions and makeup around.
You never know what you will need prior to working with a new private client, bride or model on a photo shoot.

I working with such a variety of people, that I really learned to understand each persons different needs, when it comes to skincare.
That’s why I got very curious about a new product that just launched on the Australian market.
A truly bespoke moisturizer that is available at the Chemist for an affordable price.
Bespoque skincare is an Australian brand, with a unique concept.
About half a million combinations can be created by the customers themselves using a simple touch screen interface to design their personal cream.

01bespoque

Now that sounds fun right? I immediately made an appointment with the brand to try this out for myself, and I am really impressed.
Already in love with the idea, the actual process was quick and easy, the packaging is sleek and luxurious and the label colours can be customized as well.
You can even name your product and it will have the name printed on the label, very cute!
Entering all my skin concerns, and personal details like age group choosing the texture and skin concerns as well as a choice of different fragrances (I opted for no fragrance!), I quickly realized I am a bit of a high maintenance customer.
My “day dream” moisturizer that I created contained the maximum level of active ingredients. Sounds like my skin needs some help ;)
If you are unsure about the final product ingredients will be explained and you are able to review the final ingredients before sending your order off.
While you wait your personal moisturizer will be mixed together in the pharmacy and you can take it home straight away.

The level and choice of active ingredients, was impressive and I am sure this moisturizer was created with real results in mind.
I would put the product in the same category then other high-tech skincare brands, while providing really good value.
It’s not an all natural nor organic product, but rather one built on extensive research and proven results.

My day dream cream should be pretty close to a miracle, given that I chose all the complexes that my skin needs.
It feels luxurious and has a very lovely texture that also sits well underneath makeup.
This moisturizer has a mineral oil base just like the well known luxury skin care line Creme De La Mer or to the cult pro makeup artist favourite Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentrè,
great for sensitive skins, and with the same luxurious texture.
The active ingredients are highest quality and the texture is wonderful. I am definitely happy with my product.

Would you design your own Bespoque Moisturizer?

Going For Gold

Posted on: Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Sparkly, metallic, shimmery or matte… I am in love with gold tones for makeup.
Blame it on the abundance of gorgeous autumn leaves behind my house…but I can’t get enough of this look.
So I thought I share my pro beauty tips on how to achieve this look:

From a sweep of golden shimmer to flashes of bold gold applied to the inner corners the eyes for an enhancing effect, this trend is the epitome of romantic and translates beautifully for an ethereal bride!
A good quality shimmer can also be mixed in with your lotion, to enhance collarbones or shoulders. It’s best to be applied with a good quality dome shaped makeup brush.

In the evening cheekbones, cupids-bow & bridge of the nose can be highlighted the same way sweeping the smallest amount along those areas with a dome shaped or contouring brush.
It’s important to keep glitter as an accent and to avoid too much all over use, to keep it elegant and timeless.
Golden shimmer suits all complexions, although I recommend warmer deep gold and coppers for dark skin tones and light soft honey golds for fair skin, rose gold can also work wonders on fair skin too. It’s good to test a little swatch of colour on your cheek to see which hue works best with your skin tone.
Please refer to the inspiration images for ideas of how to have a play with the new gold makeup products.
I love soft washes all over the lid, as well as more graphic statements.

A full lash line compliments the eye and the softness of this style perfectly, using several coats of a voloumizing and lengthening mascara, carefully brushed out to achieve a natural looking fullness and separation. For your wedding day I recommend using a water resistant formula.
The eyes will best be finished of with a very soft and natural brow, only filled in with a light powder, were necessary. A good helper to hold them in place is stroke of clear brow-gel.
The lips can be left nude or soft pink for a soft look or add a deep red lip for more drama and evening looks.

I love how this looks is catchy and captivating, yet subtle enough to work for brides too.
It perfectly translates from day to evening, which makes it super wearable too.

imagesProducts to achieve this Look:
Jane Iredale “24- Karat Gold Dust” in “Gold” a luxurious multi purpose shimmer with 24 karat gold content.

Jane Iredale “Double Dazzle” Dual-ended soft crayon pencil ideal for use as an eye liner or highlighter.
Two tones, deep gold and coppery red gold, to achieve brighten, lighten, and lifted look.

Jane Iredale “Dome” Makeup Brush (amazing quality ultra soft professional makeup brush)

All Jane Iredale products are suitable for a sensitve skin are cruelty free and have skincare benefits! As a professional makeup artist, I like to mix and match different brands.
Over the years I had the chance to work with all sorts of different brands and I carefully select those that deliver the best results and are consistent in their quality.
My professional makeup kit includes for example Chanel, Nars, Hourglass, Chantecaille, Make Up Forever, Laura Mercier, Stila, Shu Uemura, Mac… I only work with the most sought after international luxury and professional brands.

to sum it up: Eyeliner is amazing!!!

My favourite product form are Gel Liners. They are easy peasy to apply and they last and last and …. yes. You got it. Last.
They can mimic a defined line like a liquid liner or the smudge soft edges of a pencil, they can even be used in the inner rim.

Eyeliner suits any eye shape and colour and transform any look.

In my professional kit I use them A LOT. So I was super excited to hear that Jane Iredale just released a very luxurious version:
The Jelly Jar Gel Eyeliner. As usual the ingredients go far beyond makeup, they contain skincare! As they combine new technologies they pair natural coconut oil with silicones.
If you aren’t a beauty geek, never mind, you will love this regardless even if you can’t be impressed with new ingredient combinations and high tech formulas,
in the end what you will notice is a smooth easy application and lasting result.
I was instantly in love with the pretty little glass jar with the golden lid.
It is water resistant which makes it great for humid weather and weddings, or for the movie theater, when you watch one of those films…you know?

PRO TIP: If you always struggle to get a smooth line with your eyeliner, try using an angled brush! It will do the work for you as you just stamp along your lashline! No more excuses :)

Summer Glow for Sensitive Skins

Lately I had clients with extremely sensitive skin, not just the usual sensitive skin, that most Ladies like to claim for themselves, but the kind that actually has severe allergies, redness, dryness, eczema, dermatitis…you name it!
It always a challenge to find products that work for those skin types and while every skin is different and no one (not even a dermatologist) knows what works and what doesn’t it’s a real trial and error for those people.
Generally it’s a good idea to stay away from heavily fragranced products, strong essential oils (although all natural they are usually too potent for sensitive skin) and most very active ingredients.

A lifesaver a thermal water sprays and really basic products. One I have been counting on a lot is the Mineral Primer by Youngblood, which works a treat in nourishing, protecting and preparing the skin for makeup application.
A simple great quality product. As a staple in my kit, I was curious about trying more from this range and to see how these cruelty free, vegan and mineral products are holding up against the other Luxury and professional makeup brands, I usually use.
As a professional makeup artist, I never stick to a single brand, but rather choose and pick the best products of each luxury or professional brands.
Every brand has their strengths and weaknesses and so my kit included a huge variety of great international products from Chanel, over Nars, Hourglass, Laura Mercier, YSL, Urban Decay, Make Up Forever, Chantecaille, By Terry, Shu Uemura, to all natural cosmetics like Jane Irdale and Youngblood to suit all clients different needs and preferences that suit their skin and the occasion.

I created a wearable look for this time of year, when most girls have gotten a nice tan over the Summer months, but the wardrobe will change soon to deeper colours and evening looks will make their come back.
Late Summer is my favourite time of year, and I wish it would last forever. At least this makeup look will last and last and last, while being gentle and kind to your skin.
In fact the makeup products are pretty much perfect for humid weather and hot temperatures.

All products used were supplied by Youngblood and here is how to achieve the look:
SIMPLE STEPS!

SKIN:
Prime with Mineral Primer! Use a lightweight tinted moisturizer or just concealer where needed you want the skin to look as natural as possible
Highlighting bronzer in Mineral Radiance in “SUNDANCE” on the highest points of your face, apply with a big fluffy brush for natural finish
CHEEK: Add cream blush to Cheeks works best with fingers and gently pressed into the skin I used Luminous Creme Blush in Pink Cashmere.
EYES: Use rosegold, as base colour, pale pink as highlight and chocolate to define the eye all in the gorgeous quad “ETERNITY”, super easy to blend.
To add an unexpected edge to all the warm colours use a cool grey liquid liner from the inner corner starting fine and flicking outwards to, which lasts and lasts and lasts, all summer night long!
It’s softer than black yest gives definition and shape while being more natural looking than the usual black vintage flick.
Lips: Cranberry coloured creamy gorgeousness is the lipstick Kranberry which goes on like a lip balm but has lots of pigment for a real red lip look which transforms this summery beachy look into a cocktail time summer night style!
Finish the face for a flawless and lasting look with “Hi-Definition” Hydrating Mineral Powder, which has a cooling effect and is really perfect for hot summer evenings.

My skin loved all this products and didn’t make me break out or cause any reactions. However everyone is different, if you are sensitive Try Before You Buy.
I found the quality and texture of the products outstanding, they feel truly good on the skin and I would recommend them as natural addition to your makeup bag,
you can achieve professional results! Perfect for your day to day makeup.

Happy (a little belated) New Year everyone!
It’s been a great and very busy start for me.
If you want to have a peek at how we spent our NYE have a look here.
We also got an addition to the family as you can see and I am currently booked with 3 weddings per week, plus trials, photoshoots and admin.

But back to the beauty of this little space:
I have written about the importance of exfoliation here before and today wanted to share my favorite hero products,
that have become staples in my professional makeup kit to prep a clients/models skin and get immediate radiance and a perfect canvas for the makeup!
I am known for my natural makeup looks, and while I love bold and creative makeup I also truly enjoy very minimal makeup with enhancing the unique beauty
of the person, something that highlights rather than masks the personality and face.

To apply flawless and natural makeup the first and very important step is the right skincare and skin prep.
I like to pamper my clients a little as well and therefore sometimes include a little mini facial in the makeup application, if there is the need for it and when time allows.
To transform dull skin instantly I like to use 1 product on any skin type: The Clearisonic!!!
You just have to try it, if you haven’t already. ( This is NOT a sponsored post but my own opinion and recommendation!!!)
Another great tool, for oily, blemish prone skin, or in humid weather for a super quick exfoliation and pore deep cleanse are the Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Correction Pads.
They work wonders and smell of Bellini. Absolutely fab product!

Now I let you in into some makeup artist pro secrets…try it now and thank me later ;)
